Default My Z got totaled today after work. PICS ADDED 3/17/2008

With sad news today my Z that I bought new was put to rest. While attempting to leave work, a lady in a Lexus GS300 going 55 in a 40 MPH during rush hour traffice t-boned my car on the passenger side. The police reports states it was her fault. I managed to grab control of it and it ended up on the far right side of the street. In front of my office building of 300 employees that looked on as they left the parking lot at 5pm. Several pulled over and asked if I was ok. I look at my car and it is facing traffic the correct way (not opposite) which simply meaned drivers just passed around. The drivers side was in perfect condition but the passenger side was annihilated. Wheels twisted, fenders gone, windsheild history and the list goes on. Luckily, my car managed to stay on the far right safe from on coming traffic that just passed by looking in shock including myself. Her car during impact bounced off mine and hit another lady in a hybrid type car. We get out, check to make sure everyone is ok and proceed to go through the paperwork. Soon then the police arrived (3 of them) within a reasonable 10 minutes. Immediately the cop asked me to come further away from the wreck as the 3rd cop was coming to park behind my car and occupy the far right lane for traffic prevention. Great I thought. As we stood on the corner, I was giving the police my story of what happened. We both looked at the car together from a distance and he said at that speed, I am surprised you are alive. He goes back to check on the other people, and while I am looking at my car thinking, shes starting to die, easily 4-5k worth of work however she is saveable. I can still come out of this ok.

Not even 10 minutes later, 2 cops, 3 people all together on a corner see a FexEx truck drive right by us and SLAM SQUARE into back of my Z. Adding further salt to the wounds. This sent the Z propelling it 20 feet further, hitting the curb, jumping over the concrete curb, and watching my Z go up a side hill doing a 360 which landed between two trees. Now it was facing on coming trafficc and looking square at me. The cop and I looked at each other, and I asked him, please tell me that did not just happen? Please tell me I am dreaming....Any hopes of saving her were put to an end by a 3 ton FedEx truck. The rear was gone, the bar in the back was touching the roof on my car. The bumper was then sitting in the middle lane and winshield shattered into thousands of pieces. At this point, the level of damage was now labled totalled as it suffered two hits in different areas of the car. The police now had to write a 2nd report and I asked him to be my witness for this 2nd issue. He agreed and mentioned the FedEx driver was clearly at fault.

This happened about 7 hours ago. Since then, I've checked myself out at the hospital and everything, everyone is okay. I am at a loss of words. Drained both physically and mentally which finds me to type this story at 12:00AM due to a million thoughts running through my mind. The scene playing over and over in my head. I have the day off tomorrow to collect my thoughts and start this brutal process of getting a replacement vehicle...another Z? Or go with a Corolla (I cringe) with our great gas prices. I am at a complete loss of words about this situation. I'm 30 years old - a sensible driver yet my car seemed to be a magnet for getting into accidents that aren't my fault. If I wouldn't have had my seatbelt on then I probably wouldnt be typing this message. I thank God EVERYONE is alive and I also thank God that an angel was looking over me. I loved my car to death and what a horrible way for it to go.

If someone can help me understand this, I have a loan on this car for $6,000 -what does the insurance company do? If it's totaled then it is the actual value of the car minus loan amount = the check I get. Is this statement correct?

Please help

Mark

Bummer about 2 accidents. Do you have gap insurance to cover the 6k on the loan from the bank??? I would talk to your insurance people as soon as you can. Glad to hear your injuries are minor.

Holy ****ing **** man! First off I am glad you are ok, and second off to the question about your loan - yes you are correct. They will pay off the loan, and what is left over goes to you. It will be interesting to see who pays what because of the two seperate accidents. Did you get pictures of the first before good ol fed ex visited?

Keep us in the loop man. Plenty of people here for info to help you out.

I vote get another Z. You will have a nice down payment. Just ask mackie you left us and came back

Two more questions - where did this happen at, and what did the doctor say for your injuries?

actually it was kinda funny reading the part "The cop and I looked at each other, and I asked him, please tell me that did not just happen? Please tell me I am dreaming...." , but look on the brighter side man, your alive and you'll get another Z and maybe even some more money out of this. Shoot you may as well get the Nismo Z and upgrade buddy!!!

Default FedEx = BIG POCKETS!!!

Sorry to hear about your situation...that really sucks!

BUT, those FedEx trucks should be HIGHLY insured. You need to REALLY think about what compensation you want and go strong with it. You might even think about retaining a lawyer...they can make stuff happen with that corporation...

Im not saying...Im just saying....

Good Luck with the whole situation...

Your $6000 outstanding loan will be covered. That's not what I would be worried about. The question becomes, how are the two insurance companies (1st driver & Fedex) going to assess the damage. The car is totaled and therefore the insurance company cannot pay for individual damage if the car cannot be repaired.

I dont incourage lawyers for traffic accidents, but in this case it would be ideal. You dont want to be short changed on the estimates for the damage. Plus, like others said....Fedex=big pockets!
