Default Tail of the Dragon

I just drove the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina for the first time today. Wow! That was amazing. I have to admit that I was in a Cobb stage 2 WRX but it was still the best time I've had in a long time. This is a great vacation.

I was up there last weekend and only saw one cop the entire trip and he had radar on, so I heard him coming

I had a blast, met a guy with a s2000 CR, that thing is FAST!

I don't have any other good pics of the Tail. There were some guys out there taking pics that you can purchase. They post them at killboy.com but I have to wait for them to upload them to the site first.

We didn't see one cop the whole time. We were flat out all 11 miles.

We're in Asheville NC tonight. We will check out the Biltmore in the morning and drive some of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Today we tried to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, but it was too damn foggy.

I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me while I was driving in the clouds.

venomsz you should come up for zdayz, I missed it last year, but I'm definitely going this year.

Also the cherahala skyway is always a great road to drive.

I would like to try and make it to zdayz too. Don't know if I can swing it this year, but I'll be back to the Tail in the forseeable future.

We drove the Cherahala skyway to get to the Tail. That is a great drive too. You could stop at every turn out and see this kind of view.

This is roughly where it starts.

17548 Tapoco Road, Tapoco, NC 28771

Its a gas station at the south end of the Tail. Drive as hard as you can for 11 miles, turn around and do it again backwards. Tons of fun!

It probably takes 15 to 20 min to make it one way on the Tail.

Thats about what I was figuring for a one way trip. I'm sure you guys are stopping in the middle before heading back.

Whats the elevation changes ? Is it hilly or relatively flat ?

There are a bunch of turns that are like the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. So yeah, its pretty hilly.

I found a video on youtube that shows an nsx and ferrari driving Deal's Gap. Its about 10min long and starts at the north end and almost makes it to the end at the south. It's hard to tell from the video the elevation changes, but check it out if you want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aG65w4aCMXE
