Thanks, Fez, for taking pics. Good job yesterday on the karts, too.

My scapulas are kind of sore from pressing myself back against the plastic seat.

My chest, and collar bone area is a wee bit bit sore from the straps. I would still do it all over again and like Scott said out on the track. If You Ain't Rubbin' You Ain't Racin'.

I am looking at Helmets and trying to find a slick deal as always. I think I want a Medium helmet since that fits best but I have couple pairs of glasses that I would like to test with and make sure I can use glasses or contacts which ever I feel like using. I would like some sort of visor that does not fog and has good airflow so you can breathe. I want all that for like $60-$100. I found $349.95 helmets for $54.95 but the problem is they are in Small. All the deals are for XS, Small, or XL or XXL .

Edit: I just had to pickup this helmet for the wifey. it is a scorpion EX-1000 MSRP for $339.95 in black for $54.95 shipped. Now to find me a similar helmet for no more than $99 shipped.

One thing about helmets is they all size differently per manufacturer. Sometimes even the same brand will have variances between models. The key is trying them on.

That is what I was worried about and went to scorpion website to get their measurements and used a tape measure on my wifey's head to get her exact size. The worst that can happen is I ship it back and get $54.95 store credit towards a size up that is the same price. For mine I might go to a shop and try out different helmets and see which one fits me perfect. I imagine my wife would use the helmet twice a year and for that reason I didn't want to spend more than $50-$60.

Edit: Scorpion tends to run small from what most folks are reviewing.

I got mine at Cycle Gear I think it was. Went in to the store and asked if they had any damaged ones since I just needed it for AutoX. It's been too long for me to remember the exact details, but the one I got had some of the threads coming loose along the liner. They haven't loosened at all though so it was a great deal.

If your looking for a helmet just for karting then thats a good price point. If you think you will autocross any the helmet needs to been snell approved. Not just DOT. Also the snell date for the helmet needs to be within 10 years to be good to go.

So you will find snell rated helmets for a good price but they will be dated 2005. That means they are only good for this year. The helmet dates only change every 5 years. So you will find only 2005 and 2010 dates. Just FYI.

I picked up an amazing deal on a Modular Helmet that is only available in HI VIS Yellow. Normally $170 but now down to $27 + $8.95 shipping. I was tempted to pick up couple more to have as spairs in case friends want to ride but for now just sticking with one helmet for $35 shipped. I would like a SHOEI GT-AIR, QWEST or RF-1100 but going to wait till those hit dirt cheap close out prices.

Edit: Since this is only DOT and not SNELL. I will only use it for go-karting which is what I will be doing mainly in the start. Once I decide to get into AUTOX. I will just ****** up a slick deal on a SNELL/DOT Helmet

Yeah for $35 it was a no brainer for at least go karting. For AUTOX I think I will wait till I find close out deals on SNELL rating helmets. I am not in a hurry and enjoy picking up helmets for 75% off or more.

Grab a measuring tape and make sure you get one that is snug and has no wobble or movement when you shake your head. Also you can gamble and get both for half the price of one. Flip it or keep it as a spare.

Keep in mind the deal is very slick and there is a chance this might be a price mistake. Some folks on slickdeals think you might be getting a Clymer factory service manual. I paid with paypal and discover. Both will cover me in case of issues like receiving something else instead of what I paid for. I love price mistakes and usually come out ahead in the end.

So that Helmet was a price mistake and luckily mine went into back order status. If you ordered the helmet you would have received......

Edit: Still waiting on my wifey's helmet which is not a price mistake but a closeout in a very specific size

I measured but I never got around to purchasing one last night. Looks like it was for the better. Thanks for the heads up, faiz.

either go into a bike shop and try a couple helmets on or you can go into your local lids and have them size your head.

the fun thing about scorpion helmets is they have the inflatable bladder so even if it isint perfectly snug you can snug it up with the bladder
