I'm about to hit 40k miles on the car and no, I haven't changed transmission fluid yet. I rarely ever drive hard and it has been driving great up until now. It's also a bit difficult to get into third gear as well. Any ideas gents? I'm just hoping I don't need to have my tranny replaced.

Start with tranny fluid.......Try Redline 70-80w which is synth but its GL4.

oh, and go to autozone and buy one of these pumps if you do it youself, makes the fluid change easy......they cost about 5 bucks..

^^^+1 - best to do the basics before taking her in to get bent over and loved on (unless you have warranty)..Im sure a tranny fluid change will make a world of difference..

Yeah Tommy, I would suggest what they said. Get your transmission fluid change, I used 2 QTs of Redline MTL and 2 QTs of Redline MT-90. Got them in Garland at a shop called Lone Star Performance. Most people suggest changing it out every 15k-20k miles.

While the car is up, I would suggest changing the differential oil too.

yes thats right.........now i remember, Redline doesn't have the exact weight needed so you have to mix two quarts of each since the car takes 4.

you guys are lucky with your manual's - the auto takes so many Quarts of fluid that it is cheaper to take it in to the dealer than it is to do on your own... not to mention the labor on manuals is easier, the auto they place the drains/fill in hard to reach places

I almost got t-boned this morning on the way into work by a Honda odyssey - damn old oriental ladies can’t drive... she would have taken out my entire driver side if I didn’t swerve... I got out of my car and started bitching her out, she apologized over and over again and started crying.. I think she thought I was going to go up to her car and beat her *** or something.... but I was so pissed...

ANYWAYS Good Morning DFW

^ Yeah but I still have fun in my car
I had a Jetta before this and that damn thing was always in the shop getting repairs - no mods just to keep it running! After a year I sold it and got this, and at the time I was looking for Zs the only ones they had with low miles was the autos... I don’t mind it, its easier when driving in traffic

I would have to say after having the car for 2 years I have not had any problems with it at all besides regular routine maintenance ::knock on wood::

Obviously, you haven't driven a manual Z in traffic. The Z has enough torque that you can put it in 2nd and drive it like an auto. Of course, the 03-05s may be a bit more of a chore with that beast of a clutch. Kristi you are so right about Jetta maintenance. My lil bro has one and something is always wrong with it. But its quick, he's quicker than my aunt's 06 G35 and my cousin's 05 g35.

Does anyone know if cars and coffee is this weekend. The site says in a few days, but the date they have is from last month.

I heard that it was still on - at the Classic BMW (some BMW place)
We hopefully will have Tommy's car somewhat done so we will be there
