I would try the Dunlop Star Specs for a second set, but that's just because I'm so curious to compare the star specs to the RS-3s. Why do you need two sets anyway? You don't really drive it on the street do you?
I'm not going to be driving as much on the streets...but the Star Specs are mucho bucks ! ( Plus they don't have certain sizes that I would want. ) I wanted to be above the 140 rating and no higher than 280 with the Hankook rating. But if they all vary then I will look at others....like the Kumho Ecsta XS. They were rated very good for AutoX and DD'ng.

What the what? The Star Specs aren't mucho bucks. They're cheaper than the R-S3s.

If it were me those would be the two that I would be splitting track days and minimal street time with.

edit: oops, I was looking at my price comparison backwards. The Star specs are a bit more than the R-S3s. But they are still a much cheaper option than a PS2 or equivalent.

So why have them ? I was basically shopping from that & price so to compare wear & tread pattern.

So back to square 1 for me !

What about the Bridgestone RE-11's ?
Maybe I worded wrong, but I meant that 180 here doesn't equal 180 there, not to mention you should look at the traction rating at the same time. There are standards that keep manufacturers to have similar ratings, but one brand's 200 may end up having a softer compound than another brand's tire that's rated lower.

If you're going to drive them on the streets, having such low treadwear tires would be a waste of money, imho, which is why I'd have a dedicated track set and a dedicated street set. How you quantify how much you drive is up to you, though.

Damn Chris, RPF1s as well. Very nice!

Dude I don't even have a deck...haven't stepped on one in so long. I never learned bowls and that was one thing I always wanted to skate. It was mostly flatground and rails for me but that was maybe 4-5 years ago. I might still be able to bust a tre flip for ya but that's probably it

But I'm down to kick it and chill!

I know that if I have a set to drive on they will wear faster...but I only drive the Z to work maybe like once a week and it's only 25 miles round trip. The only other daily driving will be around where I live and that would only be on weekends. I guessing over the past 2 years I have only put like 5-7k on the car.

We'll see and Eric, I will double check the Dizerria Star SPecs out again....they maybe didn't have my size combo ???

Cool....we'll hook up soon then for a chillin' skate lesson ! Carving around bowls is easy ! You'll get it in no time.

And as for the RPF1's....I will have to see what kind of deals I can get for the tires before I get the wrapped.

Chris,

The two things with the Star Specs:

a.) They are a little bit more expensive.

b.) They don't offer a 285/35/18

Here's my suggestion... Run the star specs on the MB wheels in a 265/275 combo and run the RPF1s with a 265/285 combo.

I'm pushing the star specs for two reasons:

a.) I have heard alot of good about them

b.) I would rather run two different sets of tires for comparison.

Eric, I'm gonna set up the DD'ng wheels with 40 series for the side walls.....35's are too rough for the roads here. That's probably why I ruled them out. I have a connection thru a " friend of a friend " kind of deal that works at a Discount Tire. I hope to maybe save like $ 100 bucks or so.....not like he can get them for 25% off or anything.

I thought you said you were going to alternate them on the track?

In the case of using one for the street, run the MBs on the street with a 255/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear. The RPF1 is a performance wheel and deserves to see the track. Plus, the 265/285 combo is a better setup for the staggered 9.5/10.5 width RPF1s.

With minimal street mileage you have the option of running any tire you want. I doubt it will see rain or any severe weather conditions. You can just grab a decently priced summer set of tires. Falken 452, Kumho XS, Hankook V12, etc...

Well my understanding is the UTQG is standard but it has to do with tire wear not lateral grip. You might fined that a 200 rated tire handles better and wears better than a 140 tire. Tread pattern and sidewall size and stiffness all come into play. The Star spec I think are 200 and are a great handling tire. But they have a very stiff sidewall so they ride rougher and are loud for a DD tire.

Heres a good article to compare tires as far a racing goes. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/top-tires

That was an interesting read. I knew some of it but not all of it. I liked that tire review too since some of their testing is done in locations that we actually use.

Had one not far from my office. We had softball sized hail too but thankfully I was under covered parking. Some of our company vehicles and the vehicles of some of the people I work with didn't fair so well though. One guy had his back windshield completely busted out.

So yesterday evening we had baseball size hail in Irving I didn't have enough time to take my car to cover... In result my rear windshield look like slice of Swiss cheese roof, hood and hatch are all nicely beat up. Dent guy at work told there is about $4k or more worth of damage... So I see alot of carbon fiber for my car in a near future

Dang Ilya ! That sucks...but I guess kinda good for you since your gonna be getting some Carbon Fiber for the Z.

Post up pics of you ride !

I had all 3 cars in the garage this time.

Still haven't had a chance to get the Corolla in the shop from the last hail a couple months ago.
