Default Let's get back to the TRACK!!!!!!!

ok, so the weather is cooling off and its time to get some more runs in. im thinking about Oct 15th as a good time to head back to RCR and lay down some 13 sec passes (lower if someone has an S/C). i would think that this is plenty of head-time to gather a nice turn-out. maybe even chris s can join us. so what say ye all????????

I have been eyeballing the weather. I'm sure I could dip into the 13s with just a decent day here. I am really looking forward to a cold, dry, sunny day. A little warmth in the pavement from the sun, middle of the day so the humidity is down, and about 60-70 degrees. I figure this won't happen until November or later.

All that said, I'd probably go if the weather was good on that date.

P.S. - pretty sure I've seen you around town at least once or twice Rick, seen me? In fact, pretty sure I have seen at least half a dozen Zs that I know around town the past couple of weeks.

Yeah, I am still bone stock. I don't know if I will be able to make this date though. My transmission is all but dead. I need to take it in next week. It's either going to be replaced or something major is going to need to happen to it. I can't even get into 5th gear as of 2 days ago. I grind into 2nd, grind into 3rd, then have to shift from 4th to 6th. It's highly hosed up.

I am at around 11k now, just shy of 11k.

The problems have been getting progressively worse, the 5th gear thing just came out of nowhere 2 days ago though.

Your mean the STRIP.

If you want to come to the TRACK, The Drivers Edge has 3 more events coming up this year: 1 at MSR, 2 at TWS (including one in the reverse of the usual direction around the track - making it an all-new course!).

My car is done, picking it up at 7am today (just got back from Hell Paso, I bet they will appreciate 1700 miles on the rental). Unfortunately I don't think running it at the track with only the miles to the strip on it is a good idea.

I'll be out there tonight for my first run in my 14k mile bone stock Z. Look for a CS 350Z. I'll be wearing UT burnt orange!

Hopefully with this cool weather (58 degrees this morning!), I can trap 100+ MPH.

Also, is there an air compressor or some place I can fill up my tires at RCR? I want to drop to 25 psi to run, but don't want to have to limp home with that little air!

I don't think there is an air compressor at the track itself, but there are gas stations with air within a mile. Hope to see you there EDOAN. I will be in a Daytona Blue.

My new tranny is heaven, I know I would have been in the 13s, damn. I was so dead tired from my trip to El Paso though, I just woke up after sleeping 11 hours (usually sleep 5-6 hours a night).

25psi is not going to hurt you at all to drive to a gas station. I went down to 15psi when we were there last. It didn't seem to help, seemed worse even. I think the stock tires are just to crappy for any of the usual tricks to help them much.

So, slackers, what's up with those time slips? What was the weather like? I bet it was primo. Guessing low humidity, 60-70ish weather? Wish I had gone. I am going to have to go sometime in the not-to-distant future, as I have something to prove to the BMW guys who said I was full of sh** saying I knew I could hit 13s in the proper weather, bone stock, without stripping the car and with stock tires.

RCR was pretty good. Anthony (anthz) and I came out to represent us Z's. There were about 8-10 Sentra SE-R's, and of course, a bunch of F-bodies & Mustangs.

I ran a best of 14.22 @ 99.98, and that was straight off the highway! My 60' was a horrible 2.2xx. The RE040's just can't hook for the life of them! I was launching with a 2500 RPM clutch drop, feathering the clutch ever-so-slightly; I scratched 2nd gear and got a small chirp in 3rd. I think 13.9 would've been a stretch -- at least for me and my inexperience. Maybe next week!

I ran a 14.21 @99. Time for some mods. RE040's rears showing some wear (9800 miles) best 60ft last night was 2.18. Good luck Friday, and let me know how you do with the AEM.
