I looked at those but after reading I decided against it as it seems to need to bypass all your security functions in order to start your car. This basically makes it that much easier to jack your wheels. I'd love it but will skip it.

Hope I helped. Sorry if it's rain on your parade

It doesn't bypass anything.

Key has a box it is mounted in and you put it where ever you want and without the remote it will not send the signal to the ignition, so if you broke in you would have to find the key know enough to pry the push button off the ignition and the try to start the car all well the alarm is going off. If you look in my car it looks like it may have come stock like that so highly unlikely anyone is going to mess with a car with no ignition.

op.

It is not that complicated to install, any shop that installs remote starters and car alarms should be fine.

I'm very happy with mine so awesome never having to reach in your pocket to get in your car or start it.

Fairly certain they disable the steering wheel lock and some other stuff.
If it does not require a key, the ignition lock mechanism has to be bypassed.
There is a key or chip from a key in the car all I have to do is drill out your
ignition cylinder and turn the switch/rip off the plastic under the steering
column and short the wires.

As for the alarm, I'd cut off the horn. Snip the wires, if I can get at them,
or break into the car and pull the fuse in the car or under the hood.
Any bystander would see me and just assume I hit the button on my key fob
after getting in the car. If they say anything, I say the alarm is broken,
or that your car is being repo'd.

The long and short is modern car thiefs know you have a chip in your key
that makes their job hard. If I was a thief and saw a push button start in a Z
I was know it was primed to steal.

Fortunately for both of you I am not

If I care enough I might find an article that explains the security vulnerabilities.
Not saying I would never install one just saying I would want to know all the
info.

All good points.

The fact that you know it needs a chip and there is one in car doesn't change the fact that you have no idea where it is. And it can't be started without it.

All the ignition wires are bypassed and run through the alarm box, with a separate horn for the st800, also mounted where ever you want. It does have a cut key in the ignition but if you turn it it will do nothing. If the alarm is going off the st800 does not allow you to start it until it is shut off by either entering your code on the keypad or by pushing the unlock button on the remote.

It does open some vulnerabilities but it also closes a lot that are not present in the factory alarm.

Interesting, still there is a key, or chip from a key in the car, I don't need
to know where it is. If remote start works that means that the chip is
present and within range to function without locating it. So I don't
have a need to find it.

Bypassed digital ignition lock, Check.

boom in car, hood popped, battery disconnected = all the time I need, check

....

Wait are you telling me that the Auto-Innovatio system sits between your
stock ignition and your ECU? Cause yeah that would be pretty secure.
cause that means you would have to locate the ST800/960 system and
bypass that before you could make use of the bypassed digital ignition lock..

Of course if I as a thief know this then I just have to:
- disconnect st800/st900 main unit
- reconnect your stock ignition
- drill out key hole (or you can short the wires for the ignition)
- turn ignition with screw driver

I'm actually considering getting one of these come summer even just to
explore the technical curiosities.

well vulnerable or not it's cool as hell, I will admit that.

The chip from the key is remote mounted in a tiny little box hidden, and there is an antenna wrapped around the ignition which will not get a signal from the chipped key until the st800 sends the signal. Now if you do a horrible job of hiding the chipped key then obviously your car becomes very vulnerable. That was the one thing that made me nervous but when I saw how long the wire was made me fell alot better.

And yes it is cool as hell, when I get in my winter car I feel so inconvenienced because I have to get my key out of my pocket not only to unlock it but also to start it.

Also if you wanted to be even safer you could hide your pushbutton just a thought, wire is very long as well. Then you would have all the safety features of the st800 with the stock look, but would have to take the dummy key out when you get out. I thought about putting mine inside the cubby hole and just covering the ignition with the supplied ignition cap.

Earmuffs, seem like you are going through a lot of trouble to bypass/steal the car with this
type of system.

Gone in 60sec? seem like you are living in a stolen car.
maybe we can set up something after i have it installed, set a certain time limit so you can try and take my car away... i.e.

you have X minute head start, then i'll call the 911
- you fail. you go to jail
- you left before the time is up or before the cop shows up. i never saw you.

el oh el, anyhow thanks for all the replies, let this thread die.
