Lambo Clutch Job Project
A buddy decided to do his own clutch job on his Murcielago. Lambo says its something like a 40hr job. We started Saturday night with the front diff (wants to do the FWD delete and make it only rear drive). Sunday we got the engine out. We'll start work on the clutch this weekend. We'll do a little engine maintenance while it's out...

front brakes are the same size as a Smart car wheel, lol...
I polished the exhaust while it was off...

Finally, got the motor out...

more to come...

hahahahhahah! There's a bunch of that going on. *Dont judge! lol!* And yeah, everyone is like "Ballsy." etc. His contention: "It's just a car." lol It's a fun project, though. I will keep yal posted.
+1 for such a rational outlook! People look at the Italians like flying spaghetti monster cars. I hope to own an 06-08 Silver Gallardo someday soon and I wouldn't buy it if I couldn't work on it.

hahahah, true. Tell you the truth, I want to head down that road as well (Gallardo), but the idea of having to pull the motor to work on the tranny has me, blegh! however, once we started trekking down this path, it's not so bad. Just a lot of work. Right now it's looking like we will have the job done in half the time the dealer quoted, but put it back together might be the real test. We(he) rented a clutch alignment tool. As for other tools, there's a lot of 8mm bolts requiring an allen wrench. everything else uses an 13mm. Well, except for the fuel and oil lines. They had these gigantor nuts on them.
well, we got the clutch out in last night but we couldn't get the motor back in. POS engine hoist for the lose. He went and bought an 8 ton version (instead of the 2 ton we were borrowing) today. We also modified the front half shafts for the AWD drive delete. That was a beast, as well. 10 out of 12 spark plugs have been replaced. What i find amazing is how much corrosion these cars accumulate. Yeah, this car came from Miami, but the plugs had rust on them, V clamps had rust on them, too (seen this on other jobs on the intervwebs). Pics are still on the camera because I got home at 2am. I'll be heading back over there this afternoon to see if we can get this tranny and motor mated back up.
Oh and i think Lamborghini of Dallas quoted him $10k for this job. So even though we messed up a $100 actuator, we are still ahead of the game. I think he's spent like $500 in tools he didn't have (most expensive being the hoist, Craigslist ftw!). The clutch was $2k.

UPDATE**
Saturday 5 of us attempt to plugs, AWD delete, and getting the engine back in. We managed to replace the plugs and make the Murci RWD. Speaking of AWD delete; removes about 94lbs from the car. Operation Mini SV complete ;-) Unfortunately, the engine hoist wasn't up to the job. It just didn't have a long enough arm. Called it a night.
Sunday afternoon, after the owner secured a better endowed engine hoist and some wheel dollies, he and I tackled pulling the engine and then the transmission. Good tools make a job easy. Also, I can now check off my bucket list: Cradle Murci Transmission in arms. Everything is now mated up drivetrain wise. Next weekend the plan is to get it all back in the car.
And now the pics...
Saturday:

Plugs looked owned

Clutch ownage...

Flywheel holocaust...

haahahahhh!! @ wallet comment....
Well, guys, the kevlar clutch should be in this week, so engine install "party" this weekend. We cleaned up the engine bay and a gave the v12 a bath and painted some parts that were prone to show rust. If all goes according to plan, pics next Monday most likely, followed by some dyno time most likely at the end of April (for kicks).
