If you're military/ex-military or your parents are USAA is an excellent choice.

After my first accident my rates went up from about $70/month to $120, but after the second they went up to $235/month. Each time since they renew since then it's gone down a little (currently $198/month)... and next March the first accident will drop off my record and the rate should drop significantly.
Whenever you do get coverage you might want to look into taking defensive driving as this should get you an additional 10% discount (above rate does not include that discount).

So, I got a 10% discount that's good for 3 years. My rate is now $180/month (1083 for 6 months), down from $198. That's with two accidents on my record, and (I forgot to mention this before) two cars on my policy.
If you qualify for USAA then get it... as well as HOI, loans, mortgages, checking / savings accounts, etc, etc. Sweet deal.
