ECU Reflash vs A'PEXi SAFC-II vs Greddy Emanage
I'm curious, I always hear people saying that w/the ECU reflash their gaining so much untapped hp and tq from their mods. However, the cost and downtime are inconvenient...but wouldn' the A'PEXi SAFC-II and the Greddy Emanage do the same thing? If anyone has one installed please share your experiences...Also I'd like to hear both sides...Just want to be educated before I spend my money...Thanks
ECU: controls air to fuel mixture, timing, throttle body control, variable timing switch over, stock ecu's ability to try to make your car run the stock maps (aka feedback value) removal, rev limiter raise, speed limiter removal, adaptability of bolt-ons. comes 'pre-tuned' based on your mods/dyno info you send in. cost: $600 from technosquare. ( (or if you just want rev limiter, speed limiter & the feedback value eliminated, ithink its $350)) . or $500 from AAM
AFC: air to fuel mixture control, more personal tunability but you need to get on a dyno. $270ish.
eManage: air to fuel mixture, advancement in timing, but no timing retardation, if you plug in the MAP sensors, you can bypass the MAF. more personal tunability, but you need to get on a dyno. $350
everyone has their pros/cons
hope that helps.

i thought that the emanage only retarded timing

I would go with the emanage and once you have your AF where you want it, advance the timing with a concult one at the dealer for a few more horses.

I think that either or could be used for more power, the question is how often will you need it tuned while doing mods. It will get very expensive to fork over $500 every time you need a new ecu reflash, while a emanage with all the goodies will run you 600 or so and can be tuned each time for much cheaper.

just for the record,
I have the technosquare reflash. I've been sending the ECU back and forth getting the A/F adjusted and they haven't been charging me for those adjustments. The shipping costs add up though. It's $20-$30 each way so it's usually about $50 for each adjustment for the shipping costs.
In fact, their site says they charge $150 if you do major changes to your car and need drastically new programming changes

sentry65: didn't realize they were doing it for that cheap for each change in maps, doens't sound that bad now.
thawk408: SAFC only controls A/F (FYI: S-AFC stands for Super Air Fuel Controller)

i just did a google search on it and i found almost equal number of results for both. So i guess whatever you want to call it. I still think it is Super Air Fuel Controller though.

with the TS flash A/F adjusting, you obviously have a lot of down time so need a 2nd car of some sorts.
That could be a huge problem for some. Getting a rental for 3 days is like $100 and isn't really cost effective
