Default Please tell us what cable adapter brand you using to connect with the TXS Tuner

I'm having a heck of a time getting from my USB port on my laptop to my Tuner's RJ11.

I've tried several usb-serial cables, and several serial-rj11 adapters. Many combinations, lots of dollars and time, and still no success.

So, I ask.. what brand, make, model, etc cables and/or adapters are you using to get from your USB port to your Tuner's RJ11 port? Or at least at what store did you buy the equipment?

Hoping to recreate someone else's successful setup.

I'm also trying to find a laptop with a serial port to eliminate at least one adapter link in the chain, but serial ports are non-existant. And finding one on a used laptop that works is damn near impossible.

Thanks in advance

I bought one at Best Buy. I think it is a "DYNEX." It was the only type they had.

Make sure you install the dynex drivers 1st.

I had a bad rj-12 and/or rj12-serial adapter from Turbo XS. I sent my whole tuner back so they could test things; my tuner was fine. They sent back my tuner along with a new rj12 cable and a new serial adapter.

I remember reading that in another post. But I had assumed that if the laptop picked up the "new hardware detected" signal when I attached the Tuner (after installing the USB<>Serial cable drivers), then I also figured the rj11<>serial adapter must be passing traffic. But maybe not.

Stuck in my home town for an in-law fest this weekend. But I'm off Mon and Tues. I'll experiment with every possibility then. But I did luck into a laptop with a serial port...one that I had given my mother-in-law loooong ago. Turns out she still has it, and doesn't need it. :-) So maybe it's all a moot point.

your computer won't detect the tuner or utec. the only thing it will detect is your USB adpater.

i use a usb to serial...but you have to have the right com port set up. check your pc hardware settings to see what com port is assigned to the usb adapter...then set that up in your hyperterminal settings

I have it working now. Please follow-up and let us know if your tuner does indeed have a db9 connection.

I use Belkin adaptors with any issues. Keep trying until you find one that works on YOUR laptop. Every laptop seems to be a bit different. I can get the Belkin to work on gateway, not the dell.

well i know it does...even in the tuner manual it says that serial port in the front is for a pc connection and the serial port on the back of the tuner is for the utec connection.

i just bought the belkin usb adaptor today...so hopefully it will work...i will try it out tomorrow and post up. possibly with pics of my setup.

thanks everyone for your input
