You are to rich from 4700rpm on. Did you happen to do a log run with the stock ecu to compare?

You need to take fuel out with the map that comes with the Utec or open up the breathing on the intake side. What are your intake mods again?

Looking at your log closer.

It does not look like you were wide open throttle for the entire pull. You were not in the higher load column. You need to do a pull from around 3000rpm to redline at wide open throttle. Then it will be easier to tune.

i will also pull some more logs to look at.

what do you mean by wide open throttle?

i really don't know how to do the tuning part to be honest, and i don't know where i need to be either. any help is appreciated...thanks ace

WOT means peddle to the floor. The most i see in your last log is 85% open throttle. FLOOR that **** to the floor and keep it there until redline.

Keeping in m mind I still haven't been able to get my first runs in, but have done lots of readin, here are my suggestions:

1. You NEED to read the UTEC manual several times. I am surprised that you have it installed, and completed a run, but still do not know what to tune. This is not a slam at all... it is more of a caution. If you do not know what to tune then you are NOT READY TO TUNE. The most important words in the UTEC manual are "Do not change anything unless you know what you are changing". Keep singing that to yourself and you'll be fine.

2. For the Z, the typical A/F goal is 13.0. So you want to add or subtract fuel (using the MAF-pulldown voltage offset %) in order to get your WB O2 to read 13.0 throughout the RPM range during a wide-open-throttle run. Or if you are running FI, you will use open-fuelling settings which means you use injector pulsewidth timing (the duration the injectors spray fuel on each duty cycle, measured in ms). If you are FI I highly recommend going to a pro shop for your tuning, as the tuning needs to be much more precise.

3. Using the UTEC Dashboard double check that your TPS% is being read properly. Your logs show that you don't move out of the 0% load column, then you jump straight to the 90% load column at ~6100rpm, but the TPS% is all over the place, and never reaches beyond 85%. If the TPS % in the dashboard does not accurately correspond to your actual throttle position, then you need to do the TPS calibration which is explained in the UTEC manual.

4. Read the manual!! :-)

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. I wouldn't bother with tuning, etc until you're fully versed with the UTEC's functionality AND you have ensure that the TPS % is being read properly.

i agree with you on the tuning part...but you have to install it first...don't you?

i wouldn't even think about changing anything yet, until i knew what i was doing. i just wanted to get the thing installed.

since there is a base map, that can't be any worse than not having a tune....right? the car even seems to be running better to be honest so it can't be any worse. you gotta do some runs before you can tune...and thats where i am at. i gotta see what the car is doing and i couldn't do that unless the tuner was in.

i will start adjusting when i get a better understanding of it....and i have read the manual. sometimes its hard to go from manual to doing it. at least the install was a breeze

You are lucky. Depending on your mods the base map may not run so well. I think what I'm going to try is lots of logging using the bypass map (map 0) so I have plenty of data on the OEM ECU behavior. Then i will tune my first map using those logs as the baseline.

Other folks do use the included base map right off as the logging and tuning starting point. But not everyone is so lucky that it works well right off the bat. Depends on your mods.

No offense but I find it funny that someone going to all the trouble of datalogging on a UTEC (and talking about tuning) does not know what "wide open throttle" means.

Before proceeding I recommend reading a book on EMS tuning...

i did know wot meant...but i don't understand why is was not...i had the thing floored when i was doing my logging. in fact, i hit the rev limiter a couple of times.

hey guys, easy here...total newb to the tuning world. if i can't handle it i will have a pro do it.

By looking at those logs, you were not WOT..

4th column from the left needs to read 98- 100, that means you are floored and getting into the load range you want to be in..

maybe i need to calibrate...but i know i was floored because i hit the rev limiter more than once. i will try and log another run and see what happens.

i think its time to seek professional help...in more ways than one

scheduled to have this dyno tuned next week...unless i can get a grasp on this by then

LOL.. Its really not that hard.. You will eventually hit the rev limiter in 4th gear even tho you aren't floored.. What I do is start where I can see the oncoming traffic on the freeway, just before the ON ramp.. Wait for an opening and when you see the right spot, hit it..

You want to start logging at 2500 RPM and floor it just after you shift from 3rd to 4th. Hold on tite till you start bouncin off the rev limiter and hit the spacebar to stop logging. I mostly do my tuning at night as the highway has less traffic and its cooler too.. Lately its been getting down to the low 70's in Az so its nice..

Dont give up as once you get the hang of it, its reallly easy to do!
