Default UTEC - Boost Issues

Anyone encounter any problems getting their car to properly tune after installing a UTEC? I have heard that several of these units have "gone bad", or "were bad" to start. Am I alone on this, or has anyone else had a similar experience where they had to swap out their UTEC before being able to tune their car.

Thanks.

It does happen, but it's uncommon. For the few that do experience this, TurboXS has hooked them up no questions asked. Even if you were not the original buyer. What seems to be the problem? There are alot of UTEC users around here.

It seems that as the car approaches 5000rpm the boost just cuts out altogether...making it impossible to get it tuned properly....

can you be more specific about it? Do you have any logs you can post? Parameters? Maps? etc?

There are no issues with the UTEC, just user issues.Make sure the ground wire on the molex plug is grounded to the chassi. This is crucial on some cars with poor grounds tot he ECM.

I have no logs, as I am not the one actually tuning it. The grounding issue is one I never would have thought of on my own, or that the tuner possibly thought of. Barring any other known possible angles on this, I will try that approach later this week.

In partial throttle yes, with a boost controller though...the new HKS (VI).

Your either hitting knock retard, boost fuel cut,rev limit, or the ground is not hooked up properly. Check on the UTEC dash board that your actually running the map your attempting to modify. Then check in your parameters if you have a rev limit set or a boost cut set.

I had this same problem, after hitting 8 lbs. of boost at about 4500 rpm the car would just fall on its face. The utec was at that point going to a loading site at like 20 lbs. of boost so the car was just going pig rich. Turns out there indeed was a problem with the utec. I got an firmware update to the 2.8 v and now its working great. So I guess what im saying is try upgrading software if you dont already have the latest version.

Yea they have always said you need to 2.8 to run the controller.

Japtrixs got my Utec boost control working perfectly. I can pick 12, 15, 20 PSI.

Great Stuff!
