right I keep not having any luck. I'm working off a 9V battery, now tried with the USB cable. Drivers installed fine.

WTF is wrong with my utec? Does it HAVE to be on the car to have its software updated or what??? Not impressed.

Did you try a BRAND NEW battery? I had the same issue until I used a new battery, which lasts about 30 minutes only...

brand new battery yes.

I seem to have found a way to make it work.
I tried to decrease the baud. From the default, decreasing every time it was failing. In between, I unplugged the battery, powering down the UTEC that way, each time.

Finally at 19200 baud, the first file worked! In the process of uploading the throttle control file too.

Where is the failure occuring??? Is it during the upload? When I used the USB cable I didnt have to change the baud rate or anything. The entire process should only take about 5 minutes.

Awesome, I'm glad your finally having success. Remember to flip the processor switch towards the logo before doing the throttle file.

Also flicked the switches back.

I dont know if the UTEC will actually be able to perform everything off the 9V battery anyway. And when I started up the car I put the serial cable back on to run hyperterminal anyway because the cable is longer. Try that.

used to work fine off the 9V battery with the 2.3 software. I managed to save maps, etc to my hd.

My utec is not on the car yet, but I wanted to play with it on my desktop before putting it on the car you see

I dont know about anything specific for the USB. I was soooo scared to screw anything up that I just used the old cables i knew would work.

Unfortunately, I was not able to upload my old maps either with the serial cable. Kept getting a checksum error even though I changed the map name when I saved them. So you may need the USB cable to upload the maps too. I actually just input one by hand from the old data, which takes ****ing forever!

ok, managed to upload maps and copying the parameters by hand after I made a little video of the old ones.

One thing I noticed in the open loop fuelling screen, in the old paramenters I am copying from there were 2 fields called "injector flow" and stock injector flow"

They seem to have disappeared in the 2.8d version? is that normal? it now says "for future use"

also, still in the open loop fuelling screen, there's 2 features where in the old 2.3 said "open loop tps threshold" and the one below it. Now in the 2.8d it only says "feature disabled when the open loop fuelling is disabled" or something similar.

?

They changed some of the entries, like injector sizing is no longer there, it is done from the edit map screen. I cant remember if your car is turbo or not, but if it is not you will need to set the Fuel Mode to MAF, load indicator to MAF because the update sets the maps to speed density mode and that makes things look different. If you adjust the timing as well instead of just using the MAF pull up/down mode, and you want to increase rev limit, you will have to set the open loop fuel setting to "1", this will open those features again.

my car is NA, and I got the UTEC with a map from Japtrix (got the UTEC second hand). Still haven't put it on the car, was just checking about these differences I found between the 2 differences in the software.

I took my car down the track the other day and made my first UTEC controlled pass since the test pipes and adjustments to the fuel. Even with conservative timing and terrible 60's (2.3) I increased my trap speed over 1.5mph higher than I have ever hit before, and zero counts of knock. I really cant wait to get this car fully tuned and see what I can run.

xp will ask you for the drivers once you plug in the usb cable. Then point to the drivers folder and you'll be sorted.

try different baud rates. unplug the PC cable from the utec every time you trye new baud rates.

TBH it's quite hit and miss, but you'll ge there

when it asked me for the drivers I just wrote down the name of the product and went online to find the drivers because I saw no execute program either. i downloaded them to a known file so that when it asked me again I directed it right where to go to find what it needed. That worked and it installed properly. Once the computer was reading the UTEC I had no problems with the other procedure steps. I didnt have to change the other settings at all. Make sure you dont have the serial cable and the USB hooked up at the same time or anything, that might screw it up.
And lastly, go ahead and upload your maps to the UTEC using the USB cable if you can, because the UTEC kept saying my files were corrupt when I tried to upload them, even though they were saved under a different name just as the manual states to do.

I just reflashed from 2.6 to 2.8d, and it was a PITA, but I finally got it done. I thinked it may have cured a problem I was having, but it will take a few days to conclusively prove it fixed or not.
