Default Updating UTEC to 2.8d ?

I have questions on how to update from v2.3 to v2.8 because they added new .mot files, etc. to this update. They didnt update the manual on what order to upload.

After loading the m16c program, what do I load and what order?

Do I need to do anything with the excel tables?

Thx
Connor

come on, someone has to know this. Screw it, I guess I will just have to play around with it until I figure it out. At least I have the 2.3 package and I can always just load that one back if it doesnt work

usually the new updates come so that you can update from any version. At least its this way for my wrx. so in theory you should be able to update it from 2.3 to 2.8 straight across.

I'm having issues with exactly the same update, but I have followed the manual (and with a bit of common sense, selected the files that are supposed to be used (ie the .mot file that comes with the update )

Problem I have is that I was trying to update the software version from the 2.3 to the latest 2.8d, manual pdf file open, and following the instructions to the letter.

During uploading of the new .mot file it erases the existing file ok (so much that now the UTEC is dead if i try to connect via Hyperterminal...) then when starting uploading the new software, it keeps crashing. I read the troubleshooting on their manual, tried to lower the baud rate, power down then try again, etc. Doesn't seem to be able to update the software version

I have the flash switch to the correct position, basically followed every step to the letter. No other software uses hyperterminal for anything, what's up with it??

The error keeps appearing when "sending and verifying file" and it says "transfer failed" Also sometimes it just says "incorrect id" or something similar...

Help please

Are you using a serial/USB adapter? If so try using just the USB to USB ports, we had similar issues before.

Yeah the last one we did we were using the USB/Serial adpater to connect to the serial port as our laptop doesn't have a serial port so we switched to the USB to USB connection and it worked, the funny thing was the guy at TurboXS insisted the Utec did not have a USB port.

I did have some prolems too. It was NOT related to the cable (usb or serial both worked well). The problem that I had was that I was using a 9v battery (UTEC outside the car), but a new battery only last about 30 minutes, that's it. Tried a new battery and everything worked well.

So do I have the upload order right???

1. m16c file
2. 350Zutec file
3. throttle.mot file

Is that all i need to do??? The excel tables are only for if things get erased?

The M16 file is the file used to perform the flash of the Utec

You execute that file and then you can flash it. The 350Z_Utecv2.8d.mot is flashed first, then the throttle. Make sure you flip the toggle switches in the right order and perform the procedure properly.

toggle switches: according to the manual only one needs to be put in the position towards the txs logo, that's the flash switch. Is it still the case???

PS I'm usig a 9V battery too, led light is on in the UTEC so should be still powered up??

You do one toggle switch per file. The first switch is for the utec flash then the second one is for when you do the throttle flash

right!

btw I tried a brand new 9V battery and it still hangs half way through to updating. Will have to go try get hold of a USB-USB cable then

isnt't the second switch supposed to be a "processor" switch?

And more importantly, why on earth wouldn't they include such critical info in the manual??????

Do you mean that after you flash the first file you turn the whole thing off and then repeat the entire process again for the throttle file? Or just flip the toggle switch off and then back to flash after the first file, leaving the UTEC on? OR is it upload the Utec.mot file on the flash toggle switch, then turn flash off, flip processor switch and upload throttle.mot file?

A quick rundown of the steps would really help, this is actually just confusing me more. You can abbreviate them if you want b/c I have read the manual like 8 times now. BTW thank you very much for answering this post, you have been a big help to me with the UTEC on 350zmotoring as well (name there is 350zluver) and I really appreciate it.

Turn the ignition/Utec off
Flip the first switch towards the Turboxs emblem (if looking at the Utec with the emblem below the switches it is the switch to the right)
Turn the ignition/Utec On
Execute the mc16 program and flash the Utec file
When complete turn ignition/Utec off (make sure light is off)
Flip second switch
Turn ignition/Utec on
The flash throttle file
When complete turn ignition/Utec off
Flip switches back up or away from emblem
Turn ignition/Utec back on and you should be up and running

Thanks! that was perfect. I tried doiing the upload with the serial cable fist and that failed, so I found a USB cable and the upload worked fine. Not thinking for a second I tried starting the car after the first upload failed so I could recharge the battery and run my laptop off the car. Of course the car didnt start, and I went about getting everything uploaded before trying to start the car again.

Long story short, car runs now on v2.8, but as I was driving it out of the parking lot I noticed an SES light. I figure it was caused by trying to start the car when the UTEC had no software, but Im not sure. The car runs fine, any ideas of something else it could be?

The SES might be as you said, but sometimes it also comes up with the throttle flash, try to clear it and see if it comes back.

yeah I found the ECU reset procedure and it worked (took like ten tries to remember all the steps in the right order with good timing lol). I havent seen the code since I erased it today and the car is idling and running much smoother.
