Default True knock or false knock ...

Hey guys, well, it's time for me to jump on the whole utec knock bandwagon, here is a log of a 4th gear pull from this morning, I would really appreciate any feedback on whether the 5 knock count is real or not, also, any other comments about my timing etc would be appreciated ...

Thanks in advance ...

Colin

I would say that is false knock there Colin..

Are you running the newest download for UTI? It gives you coolant and air intake temps now..

Maybe is a data log error , the utec doesnt make any change in the timing , and the ECU neither.

That is interesting because the utec dashboard was reporting 1 degree of timing correction due to knock event ... this is gonna suck if the utec keeps taking out timing because of false events ...

Anyone want to comment on my timing ?? too aggressive or too conservative ???

Set your knock count threshold to 4. Also might want to tone down the sensetivity of the UTEC too.. I had the same problem, my UTEC was too sesitive and was pulling timing with false knock..

Just graphed your log and noticed that you go super rich at 2000 and then super lean at 2200 then smooth things out.

Is this a 'problem'? My UTEC does the same thing and I tried to tune it out only to really screw my maps up by adding a ton of fuel. The added fuel did nothing to 'fix' the problem but it really richened my map up when I was under partial throttle.

I also noticed how smooth your RPM rises. Mine is jagged, not sure what is up with that. Finally, what are you using for a boost controller? You boost is all over the map (no pun intended) between 16.5 and 18psi. Is that the UTEC doing that or one of those expensive EBCs?

I have a blitz sbc, you can definately see the solenoid working .... not sure if I need to be worried about this ...

You are right about the rich, lean thing, I've not been able to get rid of it and I've pretty much given up trying ...

I wouldn't worry about the boost control, I was just curious if that was the UTEC doing the controlling or something else. Thank you for the input.

I am by no means the expert when it comes to high boost and whp tuning.

But your timing looks conservative to my eye and what I've seen. Please don't take my word for this as absolute.

what kind of engine build-up do you have for 17.5psi ??

I'm certainly no expert either~ Hehehe! But since you only had *one* knock event, and it had an AFR of 11.45 (pretty rich) - I would attribute that to most likely being a false knock.... Timing seems a little conservative in the 10's. But, it didn't seem to retard timing too much either - less than a degree...

But your timing looks conservative to my eye and what I've seen. Please don't take my word for this as absolute.

what kind of engine build-up do you have for 17.5psi ??
Well, I guess this is what I'll pay Shariff for once we get his **** out here

Build = BuiltZMotors short block ...

Arias extreme duty pistons 9:1CR
GMT Rods
ARP 1/2 inch studs @ 100ft/lbs
HKS head gasket

stock head, which I need to start saving for to upgrade ...

If I had that kind of build, I'd venture a guess that you have a lot of untapped power hidden in that AFR and timing....

with tune by Sharif you are gonna have a kick-*** setup
