Rocks- you are using MAP on a NA built engine, right? I have a month to play with my car until it goes away for awhile and I'm trying to learn the UTEC while NA. I could hook up a MAP sensor to a vacuum line (not going to try to tap the plenum directly!) but my understanding is that the resolution will be quite poor compared to MAF when you are not boosted. Basically you'll be going between vacuum and what 1.X psi? Can you effectively tune with that?

very interested to know some details of how you're using speed density mode NA... thx!

You can use the map off of vacum. It doesnt need to see boost. I have sold my utec and am using something that is not released yet so i cant talk about it.

when you say retune...do you mean completely from scratch or just reloading the map?

that would really suck if you spent $ on a dyno tune only to have it dissappear and need to be retuned after a short period of time. if you just need to reload the map...yes a pita but not hard to do...retuning is a different story

No you have to retune it. That is why it is a good idea to learn how to tune a utec yourself. Tricking the MAF works like crap on these cars.

But the tune can be held in check by using the MAP sensor correct?

I may be mistaken, but the UTEC doesn't "lose it's tune". Ever... Until you change the parameters. But the factory ECU can start to adjust around the UTEC, trying to bring the engine management back to factory spec - effectively washing out your tune. So a reset on the factory ECU should bring back the tune until it adjusts around the UTEC again...

What I'm trying to figure out is: Does the MAP sensor/tune provide a more stable tune over MAF?

I was thinking a reflashed ECU might help, so I called TechnoSquare today to ask them if an ECU reflash for my current mods would make the ECU play nicely with my UTEC. They said they honestly didn't know how a reflashed ECU would react to a dyno-tuned UTEC.

I also left a msg with TurboXS as well about the MAF vs. MAP question. And if a reflashed ECU being compatible with UTEC or not.

If you're FI; a UTEC, F-Con, etc is a must.
If you're NA; it's looking like either an ECU Reflash, or possibly a UTEC with a MAP sensor/tune might be the way to go. But maybe not a reflashed ECU *and* UTEC together.

If you use the MAP sensor it has direct control over the injectors. The MAF on the utec tricks the ecu by modifiying the MAF signal. The ECU tried to correct it by altering its fuel maps to return back to its normal state.

Just helped him with a boost controller install on a customer's EVO IX last night. Went to pick up my parts and ended up sticking around for a while.

Installed my JWT clutch and flywheel yesterday along with the braided clutch line. Got a friend with a lift. We knocked it out in a little less than 4 hours. Got to install my AEM wideband and MAP sensor tomorrow.

Full flash from TS only good w/ cars w/out piggyback system like UTEC
Iflash (no a/f adjustment--cheaper), but removal of the limited speed, higher redline, and 100% opening of valves, is compatible w/ UTEC--but don't nown if this would actually improve any problems w/ the UTEC and "washed out" tunes.

I'm new to Z's (Nissan anyway) and have an 06. WTF is the deal with the torque? I almost put on headers but since I went with the Nismo catback I felt it was a waste. Was going to go Mrev/spcr and dyno-tune but I don't know anymore if these 6's can't get above 240 in the torque. What is all the obsession with rwHP? I want to move, now, not at 6K in 3-4th.

MRev2/spacer will get you a nice bump in low/mid tq, go for it. And yeah, you can break 240 tq with a revup, I broke 250 tq on a Mustang with my current setup.

Then you should've bought an american car with a pushrod V8, not an import with a V6.
