Default Connecting to UTEC

I searched and found on answer so be gentle. Can you connect to the UTEC without using serial? I see it has a USB but there is no mention in the instructions of it's use. Legacy support is not on any of my laptops. Can you connect over USB or will a Serial/USB adaptor work properly.

Thanks!

usb/serial adapter work with the UTEC. I believe most people have had good luck with the Belkin adapter. Most adapters work, but some won't allow uploading.

If you're just connecting to the UTEC only the usb works fine. I'm pretty sure the only time u have to do the serial/usb cable is, for connecting via the utec tuner....

the manual is very poor in explaining how to hook up the utec in various configurations with various ports.

as mentioned, if you're not using the tuner(pro), then you can connect via usb. the serial port is another option and required for pass through the tuner to allow it to add in the wideband o2 data. there is yet another rj45 connector on the opposite side. no idea what that's for...

I got it to connect finally over USB. It would say connected but nothing would show. Then I finally just got feed up and hit the space bar for no apparent reason. Voila, utec dashboard appears. At least I know it works, time to put it in the car.

If you read the manual it will tell you to press the "ESC" button as soon as you connect to refresh the screen.

I've been running a direct USB cable on my UTEC for months. I am running my serial port to my A/F guage.

KP> what kind of A/F gauge (other than the tuner) can read the UTEC serial port? Also if you are using both the serial port and USB, if you log using USB will you still get wideband data from the tuner (even though you are not using the serial out of the tuner)?

I would much prefer this if it is possible!

I'm using the AEM. You must have a computer to combine the two signals together in to one log.

It's actually an RJ12, and it's also a serial interface. So you have three ways to talk to the UTEC -- 9pin Serial, RJ12 Serial, and/or USB. Makes it pretty flexible. :-)

But you cannot connect to the UTEC through its built in USB port IF you want to be able to datalog wideband AFR via the turboXS tuner - correct?

You *must* connect your laptop to the tuner. (This is all assuming the other connections are standard, i.e. the tuner is hooked to the utec via db9 serial ports)

I mean I suppose its possible since serial is a 2 way interface, but not sure the UTEC supports this.

Did you try hitting the space bar after it connected, it will refresh the screen.

Ok, I figured it out...All I had to do was install or find the right COM
I'm not too keen on computers, but I got it. I have to say it's hard to walk away from tuning; I'll be here for hours
