Default UTEC Question....

Ok, I am tuned for high altitude. I plan on taking a 9 day road trip to california and i wont be getting a tune just for sea level. Will it hurt my car to run my tune for high altitude down at sea level? Should i run the stock map and have my car run lean because of breathing mods? What should i do?

You may consider tweaking your temp cal factors to make up for it. This would be a 'band aide' but it may be good enough. I'm sure there is a direct relationship between altitude and pressure so if you can figure that out you could possibly calculate how much fuel you need to add and be reasonably close.

I am not sure if the car is going to be 'ok' or not..

If your in Colorado, the air is much thinner than at sea level.. If I were you, I wouldn't get into boost at all at sea level if your tuned for Colorado..

Have you looked in to the temp cal idea? You really won't know what you need to do until you get there. Make a few low RPM WOT runs and you should be able to see about how much fuel you'll need to add.

The UTEC should adjust for changes in atmospheric pressure, either in MAP or MAF mode. I would think you would be fine, especially if you are NA.

Am I off here? If you are running off MAF (which is likely since you're NA), as you approach sea level the mass air flow will increase and you'll just move to that part of your tuned map. If you are running off MAP as you approach sea level the air density will increase and you'll similarly move to the appropriate part of your tuned map.

As long as your current map is appropriately tuned for the level of MAF/MAP values that you will be experiencing as you approach sea level, it should be fine. I THINK!

you will be fine if N/A the UTEC will adjust automatically to compensate for the change in air density.

Never thought about it like that. Then, is he really 'tuned' for high altitude at all????

Well i talked to my tuner, he said he doesn't tune for air density. So he said i can try my different maps and see what happens. But most likly just run map 0 and let the stock ecu control and make the changes for the change in altitude. Thanks for the input guys!
