Default UTEC boost control solenoid VS aftermarket boost controllers

Did a search on the UTEC boost control solenoid and saw some mixed reviews. Anyone try both the UTEC BC and an aftermarket BC (i.e. Greddy, Blitz, HKS, Apexi). Thoughts? Which worked better for you? Thanks fellas.

I had better luck with it in open loop mode then closed loop mode. To me, it still seems buggy, but it works well enough to not spend a lot of money on something else.

Thanks! That was the answer I was looking for. Haven't cut corners yet, and I won't start now. How's that software for the UTEC working out? Read about some of the things it does in the sticky UTEC upgrade thread.

mine works great great. I am running mine on closed loop boost control, and it does what it is supposed to.

I was running a manual boost controller previously.

I have noticed a slight climb in boost to redline. Nothing major, usually less then 1psi.

that's normal. thanks guys. trying my best to keep my car a sleeper inside and out. Boost controllers and pillar gauges would give that away. I might have to yank my screen in the nav cubby to hide some gauges.

I see that you are in Texas, so you most likely won't see the issues I have. Mine holds boost great, but the boost it holds seems to depend on the temperature - the entire reason I switched to closed loop. If the temp change is significant I start having boost issues.

Why yank the screen? Use it:

^^ nice. good idea. I figured you would have tried to shoe-horn that into cubby right behind the seats. I've seen a few carputers put in there (the small cubby by your shoulder). It would definitely make it easier to tune. How hard was it to get all the components to sync (i.e. utec, wide ban, etc)? No sense in tappin lines to get a signal when you UTEC has it all right there. Good work.

I have a G35, so I don't have that cubby.

I'm only hooked to the UTEC and the wideband, thats all. All the cables plugged right in.

I had some initial problems getting all the software to be happy, but I was using a very old version of XP and manually installing SP2. After I got a hold of a much newer version of XP and did a fresh install I haven't had a problem. The UTEC works through a USB port, so once you have the USB drivers installed its simple to work with. The wideband is plugged in to an RS232 (serial) port and is just as easy to work with. I was getting some 'noise' on they wideband, but I rerouted the signal wires and it went away.
