apexi "neo" sufficient for bolt-on tuning? is u-tec overkill?
i need to tune my car, i can feel a difference that i dont like lately that my car is just sluggish. now do i really need to spend all the money on a utec and tune just to get more out of my car, and bring it back up to its potential?
my friend has a brand new apexi neo (there newest afc) hell let go for cheap to me
http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/prod/401-A917
my mods: jwt popcharger, 5/16" plenum spacer, strup test-pipes, soon putting nismo exhaust on,
im not so much looking for a comparo of utec and this "neo" just to see if you guys who know alot about tuning these cars and the options to do so think that this things worth it.

Im in the same boat as you and not sure what to get. I think I decided on the neo. I have seen it several places for less than $350 with free shipping. Are you paying that price or getting a better deal?

Utec will be an overkill for you. Apexi or Emanage will good enough. I have a Utec and when I had my car tuned for Noz, we did an NA map and it only gained me 12hp more. For $700 plus for an NA car................... sorry.

dammit, i had an emanage from my last car too but sold it.
no lemans i cannot hook u up. this kid bought my rims off me like 2 months ago for 800 and has given me 400 so far so ill do the same to him haha.
as for timing, eh...i know to really tune a car a/f isnt enough but ill just adjust my distributor for timing..lol jk ill sacrifice it for convenience tho. maybe first ill install the wideband i have and see if the a/f's are even off.

If you know how to tune i say go ahead, but if you don`t Osiris from Uprev is your best option, BTW Air Fuel isn`t Everything, you have to retard the timing a little as its more advanced from the factory because its TOO rich up top.

the SAFC, Neo or not, is an utter waste of time on a Z...you will, at best, be able to make very very small corrections, and if anything larger is attempted, the stock ecu will absolutely correct around it. Not to mention, you'll be cutting up your factory harness to get it installed...that, and the miniscule corrections you'll be able to do, make it a waste of money for these cars, even if it were $100
A UTEC can be had used for a very very good deal, and unlike the $300 neo, it will grow with you as you do future mods. Your $300 Neo AFC will end up as a small box with blinkey blinkey lights- I guess that's cool if you're into that sorta thing.
Netshark - sorry, but what are you talking about? Retard the timing because its running too rich up top? Please tell me that was just a huge typo and edit/delete your post so people don't get confused with misinformation

Yeah I have and its sems very limitied for the 07 at this point. Wiring diagrams are not all that great and most have to have alot of knowledge as what to do.I dont have very knowledable shops where Im at , or that Ive found so I guess Ill wait alittle longer.

What i`ve been told is that when you advance the car and richen it up it won`t knock even if its too advanced, but when you take out alot of fuel (leaning it) you have to retard the timing a little so it won`t knock.
Am i right or wrong ? am still learning i`ve attempted to tune my car 2 times first time i got it working a little 2nd time i`ve messed things up because i was not in the mood to tune :P

ok first of all, i think netshark has the AFR backwards, the lower the number , the richer it is...
second of all, the apex neo WILL get corrected by the stock ecu. we have dyno tested this twice on two different cars. we fully tuned them, let them go two weeks. then redynoed them. both cars lost hp over the original hp.
sure we gained 10 or so hp on the dyno, BUT we lost it when the stock ecu took over.
