Is it safe to trickle charge a battery while its still connected?
My Z is sitting in my garage this winter and tonight when I tried to start it up the battery was weak. I will just buy a new battery but I was hoping to recharge it just in case I left a light on or something. If I use a 2amp trickle charge am I ok to just charge without disconnecting the pos lead? I have a utec . If I disconnect my battery to charge it do I just have to worry about resetting the code for my radio? Thanks in advance.
A lead acid battery discharged is only worth disposing of. Purely a function of the chemical property of the battery itself.
If you buy a reputable brand name trickle charger designed to work while a vehicle is stored then it shouldn't be an issue. They will only charge when needed.
As with anything you would want to check on it regularly for safety reasons.
Your other option is to remove the battery from the car and use it in another vehicle if you'll be leaving the car unused for more than a month.
You will need to reset the code on the radio if the battery is disconnected for more than a few minutes.
If you're already planning on replacing the battery, then just buy it when the weather warms up and you're going to drive the car on a regular basis.

there are a few cheap options that are available.. i also have one on my bike...
you don't need to worry too much about leaving it plugged in.
