Bought Netbook for Tuning
Decided to break the bank and buy a netbook last night for tuning my UTEC. Last year was no fun carrying a heavy/bulky latop with me when tuning.
My new toy:
More of an impulse buy than a necessity but oh well.

Nice. We were thinking about developing a hand held product that would allow customers to use all the functions and had a decent enough screen on it so that you could get to the adjustments quickly. But then the Netbook wave happened and there was no point in developing a $400 retail hand held device on top of the price of our normal product when someone can buy a Netbook.
I still have to get one and check it out. How do you like it so far?

Great graphics and everything is clear and readiable. Has a built in webcam/mic so I could easily call a tuner up if possible and show them what is going on at the dyno assuming they were setup to do so. Good internet access and fast processing for what I need to do.
I have family that is living in Austria so i was able to justify the cost just by the usage of the netbook with skype.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants to do logging on their car or tuning themselves.

Just bought one myself to use with my Haltech.
It's a Dell, $299 in Canadian Funds and it even has a Solid State Hard Drive so the vibration won't effect it.
These things are a hell of a bargain!

I bought a used toshiba just for tuning, it's a decent laptop but something smaller would be nice. I still have to load all the Haltech stuff in to it. Haltech is now in thought..., and now we get all this f....g snow, never fails. I will load the sofware up tonight and start playing with it, see what the interface is like.

I run VMWare and I have Ubuntu, XP, Vista64, Windows7 Beta, and obviously OSX 10.5 But being a gadget geek, I can't leave well enough alone.

Yeah i've had one of these since thanksgiving, got for 300 at staples, and i use it at work and it does great for office apps and internet, etc the touchpad has alot to be desired with the mounting of the buttons on the sides of the pads isn't the greatest idea but for the price and what it can do, and oh the 2.2lbs its awesome. mine stays attached to my desk but the few times i've brought it places its just been convenient and nice and small.
And for those that can't give up their mac look online for how to make it a apple netbook, since apple is to slow to get it to market.

Here are some NetBook options for people in the United States.
Best Buy has a Dell similar to what they offer in Canada for $299. XP and 1gb memory... 8gb solid state storage.

Here's the same thing offerred by Dell in a little different configuration... $249 for Linux... $299 for XP with 512mb memory and an 8gb solid state drive... You can bump up to 1gb memory for $25 and bump up to 16gb solid state for another $40... Still not a bad deal...

You should buy one, Rich... Let us know how it works out...
