Default tuning g35: split second box (with r4 software), aem uego wideband....what else?

Ok, so i have a split second box with r4 software and an aem uego wideband gauge. When i was reading the "utune" pdf the guy was using an obdII scanner also. I will have my wideband and ss box attached to my computer. Will i need an obdII scanner attached to the computer also? I'm just curious because i'm not sure if the ss box will display the rpm and maf sensor stuff that i need on the computer.

I'm new to tuning cars. I've been doing bikes my whole life and the software cable just plugs right in with all the data right there for you.

ah, it appears that i'll need one to tell if i'm in open or closed loop. so i'll have 3 things attached to my computer then. AEM gauge, obdII scanner, and SS box.

anyone recommend any good obdII scanners or is the BR3 OBD a good tool for the money?

thanks

Easiest way to tune your car would have been Osiris Tuner. You could have gotten rid of all that other stuff, not had to wire in the SS box or the O2 sensors stuff.

Also the SS box is well know to be unstable and unreliable on these cars.

The Osiris Tuner would most likely be easyer, if it had been out in 2003, when I built my car.

NOT TRUE about SS box...... VORTECH, SS BOX AND 46,000 MILES AND 11.85@118.00MPH in my Daily Driven "Z"..... if it's unstable and unreliable, knowone told me......

Mr UpRev, can you tell me how the Osiris Tuner will Read AFR in an 2003 Z without all that other Stuff......

Please Educate Me......

Thank You

how much is an osiris tuner? probably more htan i have to spend now.

Tim, i'm going to try to tune it with this SS box. I don't need anything fancy to tune the car so this box should work just fine.

I found my AEM will give me data logging and i just built my cable today that will allow that. Now i'm looking at what OBDII i need to get to hook up so i can read all those other sensors. Are those even necessary?

I appreciate your knowledge and input because you have obviously done good things with the split second box.

Read UTune Again.......
Also go to the Innovate Motorsports

Osiris Tuner $900 (good product) but why not use what you have if it works

How much was the SS Box?

Osiris Tuner is $900 and includes Cipher so you don't need a scan tool or separate wideband (unless you have a 2003 or early 2004 model car).

Should be right within the range of doing all the above and it's not a tinkertoy on top of a very powerful ECU. No matter how much tweaking you do to the SS box, the ECU will adjust itself when it feels like it and there goes all your tweaking. Even on the Utec, thats just how it goes. Our software controls the factory ECU so when you set your tune it stays that way and doesn't deviate.

yep, i'll read it again. it was a good read. SS box should do everthing i need it to for my skill level right now.

I have the car fired up right now without the supercharger. it's crazy rich and sounds like booty. lol.

and the ss box came with my vortech so technically it didn't cost me anything. i think it's a good start anyways.

the ss box comes with the complete kit and for u to come on here and state it has all kinds of problems is wack!!! i have ran the ss box with 400whp for 6k miles now with absolutely no issues and the car runs strong..great drivability and great power all the time ..no stubles or tweaking needed...i understand uprev is doing a good job but its very uncool to go around saying its gods best thing to tuning and that others are garbage..at least thats the way u portray it every thread i read

ok, things are starting to come together.

i ordered the LC-1 cable with the LMA-3 aux box for all my sensors. I should have all that for datalogging now.

Sounds like you are getting it all worked out.

SS box tuned Vortech here running strong since 2006.

just got my innovate LM-2 with LMA-3 (aux box) and slowly it's putthing thing together for me. It's confusing as hell but i'm slowly understanding.

I just don't know how to get my AEM wideband output to work properly as a wideband input on the AuxBox. It displays the voltage of the output. I don't know hot to change that to show a/f ratio.

If you don't mind tuning for rich fueling and ultra conservative timing, the SS box will work fine. Like UpRev said, you need to account for the stock ECU making changes to your tune to the limit of it's ability via the long term trims.

When you're ready to get that last 10-20% out of the engine, you can step up to Osiris, which is a steal considering it comes with Cipher. The first time you need to datalog or troubleshoot, you'll appreciate how handy Cipher is. If you have an 03, then this solution is not as appealing as oldman pointed out.

You need to use LogWorks3 to change the input to read as an AFR. LogWorks3 is outstanding. Converting from a voltage scale to AFR (or anything else) is described either in the downloadable manual for the aux box (which I believe is written with LogWorks 2 in mind) or the LogWorks 3 manual - can't remember now. You go up to the channel menu and configure the aux box input.

i can't find the units for a/f in the configuration menu on the aux box.

can you give some help with this? I have the units on the left and then i set the low end of the a/f and high end of the a/f to the 0 and 5 volts. Well i have no units for a/f so i can't configure it. Right now i just have it set on voltage so i can see the voltage that my AEM is putting out for analog.

I have my LM-2 hooked up but i can't log MAP yet because i need a special serial cable for the aux box and it hasn't arrived.

Also, on my other obdII scanner i can see MAP, but when i hook up the LM-2 it doesn't give me the option for MAP so that means my car can't read it. I wonder why a cheap scanner can and the 450$ one can't.

Question about the SS box. How did you guys connect to it? I tried using a USB-to-serial port cable with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Or what did you guys do? Anyone in FL (miami or Jax area) that got one of these tuned? thanks in advance guys.

i have a serial to usb connector and it works great.

i bought this cheap on on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-TO-RS232...3A1%7C294%3A30

then i bought this extension to give me extra cable length to reach my laptop:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

the usb:serial cable comes with drivers. install the drivers first before you hook the cable up. hook the cable up to the ss box then to the computer (after the computer is booted up). turn the car to the on position so the gauges come on. Start up R4 and choose the com port the cable is connected to. If you don't know, then just start at com 1 and try to connect on every one until it connects.

I'm using windows Vista for this. The cables should work with win XP just fine also. My Vista Ultimate actually had those drivers for the cable on it already.

dude thanks for the info binder. Was actually wondering if you could do me a favor? I actually have the cable, but it didn't come with a driver. Do you still have the CD it came with? You think you could possibly email me ( payamfsu@gmail.com ) the driver? If not no worries, but if you could I would most def appreciate it! thanks either way.

sent

you didn't say what cable you have or what operating system. these drivers i think are specific to each brand of cable i think.

I'm going to do a full thread on what i had to use to tune my car. I'm still learning on this stuff and Oldman350z (timrod) has helped me greatly. He pretty answered every question i have and put me in the right direction on what i needed.
