learn how to tune
#3
plz link me if possible..
i'm not a US local, so i'm basically looking to do this remotely or even read books to get the knowledge.
and i don't know why we never had "Tuning 101" in our forum.. i mean, with that amount of members, i'm sure we got hands-on tuners and enthusiasts that can put together a great manual/read/knowledge about tuning basics and tips. why it hasn't been done?

Do a lot of reading and and talk to a lot of people who know how to tune or a pro tuner.. That is what I did and get a piggyback or Osiris Tuner and get familiar with the interface. Do not touch anything until you are familiar with the software. Start adjusting the fuel and get a hang of it and once you are comfortable then you can start with the ignition. Ignition tuning is tricky because you need a Dyno to really get it right or you can get an accelerometer like Gtech so you can see the TQ curve when you start making adjustment on the ignition.

How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems is a very good book.
It is especially helpful if you come from a carbureted, single cam world like I originally did.

i say go get urself some tuning tools.
start without learning any thing.
take ur car to a dyno and play with the fuel and timing map , see how the curve is changing
ull get to know more than any book u will buy
there is no info in the books that can make u a tuner.
its all about keeping on trying and trying so that u`l get to know how thing works
dont be afraid if u hear or see knock, allways keep ur AFR in the mid 11s
ONE MORE THING, u should have a spare engine.
start without learning any thing.

Sorry but I dont totally agree. That is a great way to blowing your engine. Learn the basic of tuning first. One has to know the basic of Fuel and Ignition tuning. You cant just start changing values without knowing what is the consequence of that change. If he follow your advice then you are right that he need a spare engine.
OP,
Read the book and go to tuning forums and absorb as much as you can. Once you get the concept then start doing minor tweak on your car. Like I said, you have to be familiar with the software first before making any changes.
