Default BullyDog on VQ35HR (Dyno) - To learn or not to learn...

Does the HR need to 'learn' the new tune from the bullydog tuner in order to make more power (or how about just not LOSE power)? We're going to find out.

Plan:

-2 pulls on the dyno with premium tune after having run a tank of gas through it (computer should have relearned all of the short term and long term fueling)

-reset ecu and 2 more pulls on the dyno with premium tune without having any time to 'learn'

I just installed the premium tune, so now I just have to go burn up this tank of gas!

Completely stock 2008 6 speed w/ 20k miles, 93 octane, near sea level.

Make sure you get a good a/f reading.

Doubt you'll see any results worth posting. I thought Bully Dog was specific to diesel trucks .

You know it.

Nope, although +/- 10hp is going to be hard to notice. The fans do seem to come on sooner (or at least more) than normal. Not sure what that's about.

First impressions: a little more responsive at part throttle... maybe. Can't really tell much (if anything) at WOT, other than wishing I had the time to spend under the hood to make it faster. Gotta finish the garage (repainting, building workbench, epoxying floor, etc), install the new dishwasher, new light fixtures, kitchen sink, etc... THEN I get to play... unless some other project comes up, which I'm sure it will.

Also, fans probably not coming on more than normal, as I usually have my radio on... so now that I've got it off listening for anything weird I think it just stuck out more than normal.

are you the guy with the 7.3L power stroke in your Z? Id skip the bully dog if not. Get a proven tune. My guess is even accessport would be better. ??? But I dont have anything to base these accusations off of. So prove us wrong. It's always interesting to learn something new.

A friend that knows an owner of a shop is getting something lined up for me... Probably gonna be a lot cheaper than what I was going to fork over. ($240 for 6 pulls with wideband afr) Still shooting for Friday, but may be next week. Doh.

Update on gas mileage:

previous best round trip to work was 28.1 mpg, and was averaging around 26 to 27 at 65 mph. First trip out I managed 30.2 mpg at 65 mph. This is with 93 octane and the premium tune (no extra spark advance). Not bad if yo ask me.

Almost done with this tank of gas, and I'm at 29.3 mpg. This includes a little in town driving. It's up a solid 2-2.5 mpg, not changing the way I drive (though I do drive like a granny).

Getting close to dyno'ing... Still waiting on my friend to hook up a deal for me.

I'm using the Bully Dog Power Pup tuner again. I notice that Bully Dog made a new update tune for the DE 350z so i'm trying it out for awhile.

Just hit 31.5 mpg @ 63 mph ave on the way to work today. No wind.

Still waiting on my friend to set up the dyno. If he doesn't come through soon I may just go pay the extra money and do it somewhere else.

Sounds like you're running pretty lean -- get it on a dyno with a/f asap...hopefully you haven't done any damage already.

And the dyno run (for anything other than a/f) is useless without a baseline run.
