Buy the Cruise Control steering wheel out of a junkyard, and the switch under the dash on the clutch pedal if your car does not have it. All of the wire is there. A different ecu for cruise is a lie. There is not a different one I do not know who came up with this. The pin for the cruise on the base model ecu is there. It is also connected. I have went through the wire schematics. I was going to do this but never got around to it due to my car still being NA, didn't care much for different maps and lost interest at the time.

Cruise steering wheel search car-part.com should only be about 100$ or less for everything. I spoke to uprev about this way back in the beta. I have had uprev before it was made availible to the public. Close to a year before anyone could get the real time tuning version. They have not tried swapping steering wheels. Most people do not buy the base model, why no one cares that you can't switch maps.

As far as I know, there is no one that has tried this. If you buy the parts should only take you an hour or so to swap it out and see if it works. I know on Fords that came without cruise people would do this and have cruise.

Don't really see why switching maps on the fly is so uber important... I only do it at the track there's no reason to otherwise. Plugging in a laptop and reloading the rom takes 30 seconds and I wouldn't mind if I had to do that instead.

So are you saying you can upgrade a base model Z to have cruise control just by adding a cruise control steering wheel and connecting it to a switch that is available on all Z's?

Basically yes. I have not drove my car in almost a year so I lost interest. It is also 2000 miles away right now no idea when I will be able to try this but if you wanted to try its fairly easy to do if you download the fsm. Uprev has also told me there is no difference in the programming or the files in the ecu on the base model vs the other models.

^^^ u still might need a reflash. Base model ECU's have different ROM numbers then Non base models. All the ECU's are all the same, but it might have to reflash to a valid cruise control ROM file so that the ECU recognizes it...

Well I installed a gtm turbo kit and it uses the osiris reflash on a base model z. ever since i did the reflash i have had an error code for the cruise switch, which I do not have. so the ecm is now looking for the switch. so I am about a minute away from ordering the switch and trying it. I be in touch with the results. I would love cruise since i am 6'2" and sitting in the z for any more than 30 min. makes my foot fall asleep.

cruise switch ordered, hopefully will have by the weekend

I added a touring rom today and now can switch between tunes with my cruise steering switches but no cruise.

I have the second clutch switch that has to be closed (clutch not engaged) and steering wheel controls. Anyone know what else I need?

there is also a second switch for the brake pedal that has to be added. You probably could just put a jumper across the plug and do a test before buying the switch.

Thanks. Jumped it and will see if I now have cruise next time I go somewhere.

After thinking about it, I think the cc brake switch is open until you brake and close the circuit.

NVM, just looked at a pedal assy and it is just like the clutch, circuit is closed until you push the pedal and open it.

so are you all sitting down?

My base has cruise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is how I did it:

Installed steering wheel controls. Installed clutch pedal cruise switch, installed brake pedal cruise switch, installed cal file cf41e over cal file cf43d. I have no lights on my dash but cruise, accel, decel all work!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think i could be any more excited

So to review:

1) install steering wheel button panel and connects to existing harness in the steering column
2) install 2nd clutch cruise switch at upper travel of pedal assembly
3) install 2nd brake cruise switch - Where does this go as the brake light switch is at the top of pedal travel?
4) install touring model cal file over base

i'm new to uprev and have osirus standard right now, i don't know of any "cal" files just ROMs.

Can you explain the differences?

Under the brake light switch on the pedal there is a black plastic deal. the second switch pushes in there, turn to the right 1/4 and it seats. The wire is hanging down and reaches with a slight tug.

The uprev data is a direct c&p from my tuner's email telling me what he did yesterday. I assume cal is the same as rom. He has the link to this thread and hopefully will clarify.

This is the base ecu file that tells the computer what model car you have.
