Default Fuel Mngt vs Flashed ECU

What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a fuel controller (such as A'PEXi S-AFC or Greddy eManage) vs having the stock ECU flashed to maintain the proper A/F ratios for certain mods?

ECU flash will aslo tackle the ignition and rev limiter. The FC will be tunable and adjustable as your upgrades progress. I'm not sure if GReddy ever got their ignition harness to work with the Z.

Advantage: Piggyback controller is adjustable. As your mods change you can change your A/F curves. Don't need to send your ECU to be reflashed. Unless you actually take your car in to have them tune it, you will get a standard ECU flash, which may or may not be right for your particular car.

Disadvantage: Not to be attempted by the novice. Definitely have it done by someone who knows what they are doing. Usually there's only a 20% adjustability and if you really do some serious mods, that might not be enough. I'm not sure about the most recent SAFC's though.

SAFC-II is a great tool for fine tuning, but you need to address the other issues of the engine on the ECU. Technosquare can remove the rev limiter, speed limiter and change the timing. Both products have their advantages, but the TS ECU is the way to go when looking at cost vs. value.

Also, before you tune the ECU, you need to dyno with your mods. Good luck!

I wouldn't call it value when everytime you need to have something changed on the ECU, your charged 200$ (or whatever it is) to make the change. I'd say thats quite costly.

either way, anytime you add new mods you are going to need to get it retuned. But much easier with a tunable a/f controller
