Default Uprev Knock Listen Device

Hi guys,

Just about to make an Uprev knock listening device..

http://www.uprev.com/documentation/K...n%20Device.pdf

Just wondering whether I can just tap the wire from the ECU or have to link it directly to the knock sensor?

Anyone using this method?

Electrically it doesn’t make a difference. You can tap it at any point in between the knock sensor and the ECU. If you need to buy any components sparkfun.com is a great place. Best of luck post pics when your done.

It's easiest to tap right at the ECU or near the knock sensor connector. The problem with getting it anywhere else is the wire is actually a mini coax which breaks out into separate +/- wires which are 'tappable' near connectors.

ok, its in place now.. and i can hear the usual 'engine noise' like those $$ knock listeners, except that its got massive whining noise in the back ground. tried a few different grounding mounts for the -ve wire but doesnt seem to make any difference. anyone noticed this noise?

will go out for a drive soon and see how it sounds at high rev/under load..!

I used the ground going into the ECU at the harness and got the least noise. It was pretty bad taking ground anywhere else. Make sure you're using a shielded/coax cable as close to the connection as possible -- I hacked up an RCA cable to splice in. Noise is still there but well under the noise floor.

Yep, I made one too and it whines like crazy. I haven't tried tuning with it yet due to 1) the whine and 2) I didn't have anything but earbuds which don't block out enough outside noise to really listen in on the sensor output.

Does anyone use noise canceling headphones with this? While driving?

I used bose noise cancelling headphones along with the amplifier recommended by uprev. Works great, as long as you wire it good enough to minimize ground noise.

I just bought some of those sound deadening ear muffs that shooters use, and my ear buds. Sounded great, never had any gounding issues either.

My tuner has been using the original one for years now.
