I have no intension of dropping to 87. I bought the Z because it's a sports car and plan to drive it as such no matter what the price goes up to.

After reading you post again Vivid maybe I'll add one more test which is to use the reg tune and post my mpg and perfomance results.

You save roughly 20 cents per gallon. Say you fill up avg 16 gallons every time, you saved a whopping $3.20. Now lets say you fill up 4x a month. You would have saved $13 a month.

Do you waste more than $13 a month on other stupid things to justify wanting this "fuel cost saving"?

From my experience with Z as DD, I save a lot of gas using 89 since I tend to fill up in 2 weeks. With 93, I fill up less than a week but with 91 about 7 to 10 days since its hard to find Sunoco with 91 in my area.

What about FI folks with low comp pistons who want a street map where they rarely plan on going into boost? If someone had, say, 8.8-1, they've bought themselves about 1.5 atmospheres, or maybe 21psi to play with before they are back to where they started. Does anyone think that is low enough to get away with an 87 octane map for regular driving?
It kind of sounds rational, but something makes me think that there is more to it.

until your premium is $5/gallon, you guys are stilll paying less to fill your Z then in Canada... here's it's $1.30 - $1.45/L or $5 - $6.25/g .... personally i would just run the performance setup on your bully dog, i run the performance setup just because, yes the manual says premium and the bully gives you the option to drop down but why not just spend the few extra pennies and put in premium?
