UTEC timing target

SO I'm tuning on a UTEC again (greddy twins) after so many years. Everything is working well EXCEPT it overshoots my timing by 2-3 degrees between 3k and 4k (settles to what I dialed in above that). Any ideas other than retarding that whole area of the map 2-3 degrees under what I actually want?
