Default UTEC or something else with HKS supercharger

I just bought HKS supercharger. I have UTEC that I used to NA tune my car. Now I'm wondering what should I use to tune my car.

I'm replacing the additional injectors in the HKS kit with DW600. I will also get a fuel return kit and better fuel pump. I'm aiming for +300whp and will probably build the engine in the future and do some upgrades to reach 400whp. The car is driven hard on track days. But it's also driven in the streets for about 4000 miles a year.

I find Utec pretty easy to use, but I have heard that it's not the best option. To tune Utec I would need a Map sensor or is PMAS MAF an option? I probably can't use the map sensor from Fcon I that came with the kit and just rewire it?

Then there is the stuff that I don't have Uprev, Haltech, ...
Options would be a reflash+Utec just a reflash or go with a Haltech standalone or something similar. Flexfuel would be really interesting option, but I don't know if it's worth it. What I wan't the most is a seamless tune that will work perfectly. But on the other hand I don't want to spend more than I have to.

Which engine management would you recommend. And what do you think would be best for my application? What would you recommend if I want to do the tuning myself. Keep in mind that with the price of Haltech I could almost build the engine.

I'm using a UTEC for my turbo set-up. I was originally using a LC-1 wideband, but just purchased the Turboxs wideband that goes with the UTEC to make tuning even easier. There was already a map created for my turbo kit, so I just used that and modified it slightly. If you already have the UTEC you might as well use it

I noticed that there is still one TurboXS wideband for sale. I could buy it and the MAP sensor, but it would cost me little over 300$. Now it's about half of what I would pay for Osiris, but I could probably sell the Utec for 200$. So price difference is pretty small. I already have PLX wideband, but it's not really that great for logging with dashcommand.

Utec has knock protection, but are there other advantages to go with Osiris. I heard that there might be issues running bigger injectors with utec. What size injectors you are using?

The US maps don't work that well with european 350z's.

I'm a fan of Uprev, stock MAF sensor would be fine up to 400 whp as well.. feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it.

I'm using 550cc injectors. I haven't had any knocks yet so i can't comment on that aspect of pulling the timing, but I have overboosted and UTEC cuts the car out when that happens. I put the wrong spring in (it was over 10lb) and my boost protection was set at 7psi and it cut out before it hit 8. Most people do not use UTEC anymore because it's a dinosaur, but seems to work well for me.

A friend of mine agreed to lend me a Maf sensor for Utec so I will try that out first. What I can't quite understand is why you can use Maf to tune with Osiris, but with Utec it's recommended to use map sensor. I know how to tune utec for NA (Maf), but FI(speed density) is new to me.

My Z has a utec (130k mi total, 70k boosted with UTEC) and it works great. They either work or they don't. I had the worst time with UTEC on my G... three units warrantied and I still had random codes and limp startups, and eventually blown coil packs. Eventually switched to Uprev and it works way better minus the protections. On the Z the UTEC runs just like stock and it's nice having the cheap protection for overboost, knock count ect. Not going to change it unless I rebuild and go for big boost.

That's good info djamps! I'll try the UTEC and if that doesn't work then either used Haltech or Osiris!

With the utec it uses both the MAF and the supplied MAP I tried to run with just the MAP and it makes things wayy more difficult

So would you recommend tuning by MAF? I don't think that I will hit 400whp so stock MAF should be ok.

The utec works by using the MAF until a specified boost level. I set my maf to shut off at 1psi and then the MAP kicks in for tuning

I had an Uprev on my HKS Supercharged Z... no problems at all.

Thanks for the input. Uprev would be cheap compared to Haltech. But no one here tunes it. I guess it's easy enough to learn to do it by myself. Now that I know it can work well with the HKS kit I might as well buy it.
