Default concerned with lean afr before tune

After reading tons of threads on should I get a tune or not...people posting dynos with all the boltons and running a 14 afr and running scary lean makes me scared to even push my car without a tune...then people will say well your bolt ons will not be optimized without a tune (I understand that) but it is okay to not get a tune? so which is it lol

I have an 05 6mt 130000mile

jwt clutch/flywheel/wildwood slave
placebo charger (put on last weekend)
z1 plenum spacer(put on last weekend)
injen exhaust (with magnaflow x pipe soon)
z1 hfc

I left the negative on the battery unplugged for 3 hours during plenum/placebo charger install to reset ecu...

I guess im afraid of pushing my car until I get a tune which might be a month intill I can work it in..wanted to make a few passes down the 1/4mile

Whats your thoughts? someone calm my nerves

In my old Z i drove around with full bolt ons without a tune for around a year and didn't have a problem. While i wouldn't recommend doing it for a long time.... I think you will be fine. Many others have done the same

maybe a better understanding of how the ecu reads the more air intake and freer flowing exhaust would make more sense to me? affects how the ecu provides fuel and or changes timing to deter from detonation...but if dynos are showing dangerous lean then obviously the ecu is not doing its job unless its beyond is adjustable parameters? is my thinking correct?

post a dyno showing dangerously lean on a NA motor with bolt ons. I havent seen one.

99% of the people have no idea what a proper tune looks like, esp when you cannot see the ignition timing from the dyno.

YOur knock sensor will drop you into a low timing map if something isnt right.

i am like bmurray, i drove on mine for about a year before i tuned. of all of them, i think the plenum spacer would do the most leaning... not positive just throwing things out. maybe the de guys can give you more insight

guess it really depends on your definition of lean?

if it really bothers you, throw it on a dyno for like 50 bucks and check out the afrs

You'll be fine driving around normally, if you're worried about it just don't smash on it and skip the street races till you can get a tune

You could always go with Osiris standard and get it reflashed and dialed in at home without having to work into the shops schedule.. at a better price too
