If you are doing a 500whp build you may want to consider the Uprev. Uprev will be able to handle your needs and you'll have plenty of other places that'll be shop-vac'ing your wallet of cash.
If you can back your power goals down to 400whp to 450whp you'll save yourself $10k to $15k and quite a bit of heart ache, especially on an automatic transmission.
Your transmission is going to be a speed bump ... might it be possible to sell the car and pick-up a manual transmission variant?

it's a dd, and i drive in traffic both ways so i'd like to keep the auto. i already have the uprev tuner cable, just wasn't sure it could do everything i'll need it to do. so, I should be good to go with it? also, is there a way to rebuild or replace the auto trans so it can handle more power?

thanks conway. i'm ok with spending some money to get the z to where it needs to be to handle the hp. in retrospect, i should've just got the 6mt instead of the auto. do you think it'll be $4-5000 more to achieve 500+ with the auto, which would be the approximate cost for another z?
sorry for the thread going sideways. i'm just trying to plan out a build that dosen't include parts that i will have to sell when i outgrow them.

Im not sure who even rebuilds the transmissions anymore, but it was a few thousand to get them rebuilt to handle the power. It may be slightly cheaper in the short run to just rebuild the tranny but in the long run it will cost more because the auto is not reliable at those levels.

If I had it all over...before completely gutting my pristine, low-mileage supercharged touring, it'd have been 10,000% smarter to buy a salvaged Z and gone bat **** crazy on it...can you find a salvaged 6mt that you can turn into a project car and keep your AT as your un-touched daily?
would be cool to see another FI build in these parts...

Yea don't take my replies the wrong way.
But everyone comes in saying I wanna build a 1000 hp Z then says tell me how I can do it for $20.
If you're serious it can be done but like they said you're going to need to do a LOT more than just ask us and bolt on any ol super charger.
Trans aren't rated on HP either btw, you need to figure out your Tq numbers and figure out the amount of shift cycles it can handle.
I know a few guys with 400 ish HP on auto trans. I don't know anyone running AT with anything above 425 so idk how much beyond that they can take. I also don't know all his breakages or issue history. But I do know he has an upgraded tq converter.
Either way look to spend around $5k to $8k to get to 450 or less HP. Beyond that you almost double your cost because all sorts of stuff needs to get upgraded.
And honestly no one needs anything over 400hp for a street car. Idc what anyone tells you 400 is more than enough for any street car. Which is why that 500hp street AT street car goal had me roll my eyes a little. Easy to say, hard to actually do and pay for.

I agree. Anything after 400hp is $$$$$. Shoot, I spent about 8K just to get 400hp on a stock block. lol... stock clutch too. I have another $1,500->2K right there to spend in the spring. The "proper way" after 400hp is too expensive for a normal street car to justify spending the money... reason lots seek advice for shortcuts. There are no shortcuts. Even if done the "proper way", there is always risk.

CK, I apologize for my tone on that post. i've been on other sites where there's a TON of trolling, and assumed that you were doing the same. i think that i will just shoot for around 400 hp for the auto, and take everyone's advice and look for a salvaged 6mt to go crazy with. i've been to a shop in my general area that quoted 10k for a supercharged, rebuilt trans, and tuned build, and was just trying to collect as much information as possible to see how inflated the quote was. turns out, it was a pretty fair estimate and i think that i may just take them up on their offer. thanks again bealljk, conway, CK, and nissan tracker for all of your help and information!

Who/what is the shop?
It might be a killer deal for quality parts. But that doesn't mean that's what you're ganna get. Someone link him the purple Z project import had to repair. IIRC that dude spent $20k for his kit. Cost doesn't always mean quality.
What parts they are going to put on and what they are going to do is more important than the price. If they put on a eBay charger with that $10k that's not ganna do much. See if you can get an invoice of what they "$10k" gets you.

$10k seems right for an inclusive build ... but CK has a good point - post up what the shop is offering, I'm sure everyone here will offer their opinion on the build.
on a scale of 1 to 10 how mechanical are you? Can you do the work yourself? Do you have a garage where the car can be torn-apart & down while you build?
if it was me, I'd spend the $3 to $5 on a salvaged vehicle, $2 to $5 on chassis repairs(as needed) $5 to $7 on the supercharger build.
Phase it out, pay cash for everything, and take one step at a time - learning & researching every step of the way.
