Thanks bud. Yeah - I did the clutch/flywheel install myself. This was when I was working in a 1-car garage and using jack stands. That is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. Since that time, I've finished up this "build" so no more crawling around on my back anymore.
For now, I think the Z might be finished with performance-based mods. I might do headers in the future, but based on the labor vs. gains, I'm still on the fence. But then again, the Z is not my daily and with the lift, I suppose it wouldn't be too horrible. Maybe if I get bored... As far as FI, I know there are a lot of threads about the reliability, but I think I'm too much of a wimp to take the plunge. My daily is a G35 with about 145K on the clock. I might go FI in the future and do a rebuild if she turns into my hobby car and I get a different daily.
Here's how my Z currently sits. Throw up the Z-wave if you see me around!
Not relevant to the topic at hand, but if you ever want to sell this shoot me a PM. Been wanting to add a vert to the garage and this is a great looking car.
Just got my Z tuned today at Soho Motorsports (per Heel Til I Die's recommendation-thanks!) outside of Charlotte NC. First to plug those guys-what a great shop, super clean and staff was extremely professional and polite. You could literally eat off the floor in there.
Now on to the tune. I will post the graph as soon as i get it-hopefully they will email it tomorrow, if not i'll follow up. Baseline numbers were 240HP and 225 ft/lbs on a Dynojet. After tuning the final numbers were 260HP and 240 ft/lbs. I believe the peak differential in the graph was 30HP but not sure at what RPM that was. Conditions at time of tune was 92 degrees with typical high August humidity. Overall the car has better throttle response for sure, but since my trip home was all interstate driving i cant comment more at this time. I also note my cooling fan comes on earlier hehe. I'll post the graph once i get it and if anyone lives within a few hours radius of Charlotte then Soho is worth the trip!
Nice! I'm glad you took the trip down to Soho. You are correct - their shop is exceptionally clean. You would think nothing gets done in there since it's spotless like a showroom. If you're into breweries and you've been to some local ones (which are basically run out of a storage space) and then you visit Red Oak in Mebane, you would think you just walked into NASA. That's kind of how I felt when I got to Soho. Very professional and great group of guys.
Awesome that you're happy with the recommendation for tuning and you're enjoying how the Z feels now! Looking forward to seeing the dyno graph.
Thanks. Not super impressed with my torque beforehand but it is what it is. At least I picked something up. The car does drive entirely different..now it pulls and pulls in the upper RPMs.
That will be the biggest thing, the difference in how it acts.
The numbers ultimately don't matter as much, dyno, elevation, temps, and other factors dictate too much to get fixated on numbers TBH.
Good looking curve post-tune! Everybody is always crying about getting to the magical 300 number N/A, but as Dark mentioned, it's best not to dwell on the actual numbers.
Side-by-side comparison of our dyno runs, it looks like your hp/tq peak a little later than mine, but pretty close.
Thanks Heel! Im definitely a little jealous of your torque numbers...loving how this car drives now. Not sure what to do next. May go the clutch and flywheel route as you did.
Not a bad idea depending on the mileage on your current clutch. The JWT single mass lightened flywheel/clutch combo isn't for everyone. Some people hate it for street driving. I actually like it more than OEM. You do get the increased concrete mixer sound at idle, but it doesn't bother me.
OT, but since you also bleed Carolina blue, I predict we're going to get taken to the cleaners by App State today, lol.
