Question Past / Current Cars

Jumping from my last post in the other thread... what cars do us in the UK contingent drive right now?

Currently I have a Nissan Almera GTi (1997 R), having previously owned (before it got stolen) a Ford Escort Bonus 1.1 (G 1990).

I've driven a bunch of company cars and friends cars, culminating in a modified Scooby a couple of weeks ago (which had a sweet gear box).

I'm just interested in seeing what you guys are driving now.

That's a nice car. my ex-boss just got one a couple of months ago... great for the M25 with the auto-paddle gears.

it's her purchase of that, that finally decided for me to splash the cash on the Z.

Talking

First car was a 928cc Talbot Sunbeam, could've walked faster but with RWD and incredibly skinny tyres it was a hoot on snow.

When I started my first proper job I got a Nissan Micra, dodgy little 1.0 but good fun and good value. I liked it so much I bought a Micra 1.3SR after a couple of years, kept that for a year, then got a big pay rise and splashed out on an Almera GTi. Best handling car I've ever driven, despite being very nose heavy.

Then, after another big jump in income, traded it in for a cashmere yellow Impreza STi 6 (do you remember me from your Warrender days, Steven?), I've had that for over three years now, I'm a bit bored with it but haven't been able to find anything that could touch it for sensible money, now with the 350Z coming in at 24k I want one!

I've had a few....

'77 - Vauxhall Viva HB - (better then the base MK1 Escorts)
'78 - MG 1300 (yuk!)
'79 - Ford Cortina Mk3 1600L - (Look, I was skint!)
'80 - Datsun 1200 coupe - (First car with a rev counter!)
'81 - Datsun 120Y - (It was fun, slow fun, but fun!)
'84 - Ford Cortina Mk4 2.0 Ghia (Wooed by the stereo)
'85 - Datsun 240Z (I, and the car got the bug)
'86 - Nissan Micra 1.0 (Brand new, still got it!)
'88 - Datsun 240Z (Chassis #35, still got it! Be on the road this year)

Company Cars
Ford Orion 1.6 Ghia - (quick, but primitive)
Peugeot 405 1.6 SR - (great ride and handlin, no kit)
Rover 216 GSI - (loved it, put 111,000 miles, never missed a beat)
Citroen Xantia 2.0 VSX (Ride, handling, but awful seats)
Renault Safrane (Goddam awful!)
Toyota Carina 2.0 CD - (surprisingly good)
Rover 620 GSI - (No thanks)

Opted out
'97-'99 Nissan 300ZX (bought with 84k on the clock sold with 170k- I liked it)
'99-01 Skyline GTS (My ideal car - this is the 1st one, it was written off by a Valet parker!)
'01-'04 (when I get my 350Z) Skyline GTS. (It had better be better!)

'03 - Mini Cooper- (What a great drive!)

Default 350Z not cheap in ND

I presently have 1980 280ZX - love it. Like the long nose. 300ZX did not interest me because Nissan cut the nose.

350Z base price at dealers in ND start at $32,000 with what I want on it & not even big items will be about $34,000.

Also, want to wait to see the concept Pontiac Solstice car come into production. This is the type of sports car I like and $10,000 less than 350Z. Although, I fully trust how well made the Zs are.

I can only have one car. My hubby is going to buy it for me, so can't go above $34,000. He said I can have my 280 breaks down. Long way from that - have only 73,000 mil & runs great.

Nice listening to you guys. Trying to learn all about the new 350Z before I buy one. I'm a racer only in heart. Did try the Honda S2000 - fun, if had 2nd car. I even drive my 280ZX in ice & snow (Michelin All-Season tires) on - handles well in a skid.

Cars owned in the past:

Ford Futura 1967
Corvette convertible 1968
MGB 1972

Hey Marian,

So you think a Z is expensive in ND (excuse my ignorance but where is that?), you should try living over here (England). The base price is almost 39k dollars!, plus if we want one of the first cars in October we have to have a full spec car, which means we have to pay almost £4k more.
So count your blessings, and respect to you for your choice of cars.
