Aww, it's really not so bad when you calculate it.
Just guessing this trip is about 2,500 miles round trip for you. At 18mpg average = 139 gallons of fuel. I guess that gas prices will be $3.50 compared to $2.75 last May. $0.75 x 139 = means an additional $104.25 spent on gas.

For me, I'll just spend less on beer at the cabin and ... no, that won't work. I guess I'll have to prostitute out my wife for a few weeks prior to ZdayZ. Hopefully that will cover the gas. Otherwise I'll be picking up cans along the interstate.

Do I need a roll bar for the track event? My Z is basically stock safety wise?

Also how will we manage noob's like me, with stock-ish Z's, running with seasoned veterans in trailer-queen beasts?

I'm liking the track idea.

They'll have multiple run groups for folks who are seasoned and those who new.

Phreak: You can score a ride with me! Maybe I'll let you drive... last time I let someone else drive we did a 360! (I shouldn't pick on him since he won't see this : )

Roll bars...
The format of the track day is still being formulated... generally speaking, and as things stand at the moment, the only cars that will be required to have a roll bar are convertibles. (At least for the at-speed groups.)

That said... I know ZDayZ draws a large convertible/roadster crowd, and we will be coming up with a plan for those cars.

Run groups...
We will definitely be separating drivers by experience level, and beginners/novices will have in-car instructors.

How did you manage that? I called in Dec. and they said all the cabins with that layout were already reserved unless I wanted the cabin with that layout, a juccuzzi, a fire place and other stuff for $245 a night plus tax.

This seams fun and dangerous. Ive autoXed some but Im probably still in novice. I know I personally would be unsure about racing against people with no clue what they are doing. Why not just have an autoX? Then the odds of a crash has to drop.

My guess is time. I have been autocrossing for ~5 years and we can only keep about 3 cars on course at a time.

HPDE allows for more cars on course at a time, and more seat time in general.

I also don't think we will be "racing" at this event. (Although I expect some competitiveness from the drivers.)

I'm hoping to learn proper track etiquette quickly. -Maybe some in car instruction for the finer points of this track, and brake-heat management.

Awesome Lee! I'd love to!

Regarding Roadsters on the track: I would love to be given permission to do just a few laps. (Not racing, just spirited parade laps) I'd be willing to sign a roadster specific waiver.

Doesn't matter how many track days I've done or helped instruct... I will always try to find a local that knows the course to ride with me to let me know their aiming points etc. More helpful than blindly driving the course for how many sessions to find the sweet spots

There will not be any racing at the HPDE, there will be driver improvement. AV runs an excellent DE with classroom time, in car instruction, and a safe fun event.

We will evaluate each person's track experience and assign them to the appropriate run group. Roasters may get their own run group, or a session, it is up to you guys. AS anything that is ZdayZ pre-registration drives the event. that said I do not have registration open yet, but the first few weeks/month will define how to setup the track event/car show/ everything.

This is the biggest reason to pre-regsiter, it makes the big decisions easier to make for the staff.
