Sorry if it's been posted, did a search in the videos forum. if not, dayum!!!

Evidently a nitrous leak/line malfunction caused it.

That was my friend James' Z06, and yes it was a nitrous system malfunction. Pretty scary stuff. He has a new C6 vette now and is planning a turbo built eventually.

damn so what all exactly happened? i assume the block was destroyed, or was it relatively minor in addition to the hood blowing apart? at least he jumped out of there quick- i think i would have shat myself

I was there when it happened. I was enjoying my hot dog lunch when I heard the explosion. I looked up and saw the driver running (I'm sure praying to baby Jesus) away from the car. The good thing is that he was physically fine. I know that I would have messed myself, ran, messed myself, cried, messed myself and then passed out from messing myself. What a mess.

He slightly bogged off the line and since he sprays out of the hole the nitrous was already activated. Nitrous and fuel pooled in the intake manifold and the fuel ignited. Blew the intake manifold off the car and started the fire. The damage from the explosion itself was relatively minor....what ended up totaling the car was the ensuing fire.

Does insurnance cover this? If it were me, I would have towed it to a country road and into the woods, called a tow truck, and then the insurance company.

Maybe followed by a criminal defense attorney.

He came completely clean to State Farm about what happend...and they covered the WHOLE thing. Pretty unbelieveable...but he was able to drive out of a chevy dealership a month ago with a brand new C6 for just a few grand over what State Farm gave him for his car.

Did I mention that State Farm ROCKS?

That is simply awsome! In two years my oldest son begins to drive. State Farm may be needed. LOL.
