I think the VQ is one of the best sounding motors out there... the stock hum is really nice. Never hear any modified ones in my town unfortunately.

The only 4 cylinder than I enjoy listening to are the subaru boxer motors... very grumbly and deep. And of course any V8 can sound great/deep/big

 

4g63's sound awesome as well. especially with an aftermarket turbo and dumped wastegate. my evo sounded like sex

 

You'd be amazed how a set of cams can change a whole engine sound.
