At the track....... where do you launch from?
What rpms are you guys launching from?
When i launch from around 3,000 rpm...
My car spins like nuts, i find myself going sideways, and then in the end... i might as well have been in a 100hp civic
I never raced before in my life! 3000 seems WAY too high I am assuming?

I don't go to the drag strip but yes it probably is a little high. To some extent it will also depend on conditions.
In addition, you're going to want to slightly slip the clutch on initial launch. The transition needs to be quick, but it's still a slip as opposed to a dump.
You want just enough wheelspin to not bog down, yet not enough to sit there smoking your tires.
Full clutch engagement probably happens in the first 2-3 feet.
Some of these guys that live at the track can probably tell you better.

alright thx.
yea i want to know what to do with the clutch too.
ive been basically doing a dump i guess? i just press it in, hits around 3k, i just let off the clutch (but not SUPER fast)
i just dont want to break an axle or something crazy.
i dont track a whole lot either but I just want to learn how to drive, you know?

PRACTICE.....but...3k is usually pretty good...a bit lower for street tires....(stock width) once u feel the car engage/move forward abit...time to let it out and see what it will handle...GOOD LUCK....

My best time so far was from launching at 4k. I was launching at 3-3.5k and couldn't nail that 2.0 60', then tried 4k and it worked. Going to the track again next Saturday to try 4-4.5k again. The reason you're spinning out is you are probably dumping the clutch - you need to feather it until you hook up.
so how exactly do i slip the clutch or feather it?
no one in my town is really a "track/race car driver" so they probably dont know. Most of the body shops in this town dont even know what a lip kit is... so -_- to my town.
do i just slowly let off the clutch instead of dumping it?
btw i got stock everything so far with NO lsd.
no lsd, i didnt think it would suck this bad. when my tires spin, my car rotates... i hate it. i got no traction control either. im sure it matters some compared to your methods?

if that guy broke his axels on a 5k launch then he most def wasn't stock with stock tires. i mean maybe if he slicks but still. i dont think you would have anything to worry about at a 5k launch with stock tires and a stock or fairly stock motor.

BTW I hope to get together with you in the spring at Cecil County Dragway.
People break **** when they drop it at 5k and stick. Your tires are spinning so your not really putting alot of stress on the drivetrain. Just feather the clutch like their saying. It may stink a little but if you play you pay =p.
