Every aftermarket company that makes intakes knows this. Just because the air around the intake is hot dsn't mean the air going into the intake is. No matter what kinda of intake you have. That's also why the filters SHOULD be designed to be towards the bumper or opening where cold air would come from. If aftermarket intakes would kill performance no one would be making them. And everyone still buys them..
If intakes were sooooooo crappy. Then why is every single performance car made have an aftermarket intake?? If they were so bad then stock ones would stay in.... This is to much of a theory of hearsoak and people are too scared of it. It will happen at a stand still. But can't in motion. If your also scared. Get a hood with openings then. Slit some holes in your fenders then also.....

The difference as previously stated is what you see more benefit from
Short ram intakes- have a better throttle response as the air has less distance to travel so you don’t run lean the first few revolutions when you have a vacuum due to increased air consumption...
cold air intakes- do just what they say, deliver colder air to the engine allowing more air molecules into the cylinder, via pulling air from outside the engine bay into the car, your throttle response does suffer but you get more power via more air per cycle...
AND a lemming argument have NEVER EVER EVER EVER won... if it was bad why is everyone doing it... there have been several posts on this thread that say the stock air intake is designed well enough that you wont see power gains in this application... every other car doesn’t matter... the z does as this is a specific car with a specific application. for future reference a intake located inside the engine compartment heat shield or no heat shield will be taking in engine compartment air so it's ****ing retarded to say that the air intake located inside the engine compartment would be somehow cooler as if it would be getting its air from ? Where a magical place filled with cold air and horsepower? Unless you have a short ram that is completely sealed off and heat shielded with an opening larger than the little crack between the hood and front fender at least 50% of your air if not more is coming from the engine compartment. The only reason most people have CAI on there cars is one because anyone with 2cents for a brain can put one in, they are the cheapest horsepower mod to do yourself(assuming you are the average consumer not a machinist/mechanic) they look good and on most vehicles the stock intakes suck. So when I put one on my 01 eclipse I got about 10-15 HP out of it, now if your stock intake is well designed, its reasonable to assume that you might not see any gains on it, as the air temp would be only slightly significant and you aren’t seeing any higher pressure because you aren’t boosted it’s a wash…. It just looks good… this is all working under the assumption that all the previous posts are correct in stating that you wont see any performance gains from a cold air, Usually that means you wont see any performance gains until you have a CAI and Full exhaust
In the future don’t flame unless you are sure you know what you are talking about, and then don’t do it even then… Its not very nice, and we ALL have something we don’t know anything about and no one likes to get a new ***hole ripped after they just put there foot in there mouth…

I drove it for a week or so, and the light didn't go away. Right now I'm on vacation, I guess we'll find out when I get back.
