But if that were the case, heat soak would be a rumor impossible to conceive of.
if the air coming in through the filter is cold, heat soak by going through the pipe will be minimal. IMO

in this particular case, since we are not certain how well the heat shields work, the added heat sucked in combined with the heat transfer from the pipes might be significant. also, don't forget that our throttle bodies are heated , unless you install a bypass.

Well if the air going through the filter is warm, you would have LESS heat soak as the differential is smaller, and they're already warm. It's COLD air going through the filter that you want, and you want it to stay cold until it's in the engine, but cold air is also more likely to suffer a temp rise. Keeping it cold is just as important as getting cold air in the first place, is all I'm saying.

I still don't understand heated TB's... But that's another topic.

If you are really worried about heat soak through the long pipes, I would just use some heat tape to insulate it. It won't look at pretty, but it will help with the "heat soak" issue.

Use those heat sleeves if your that worried about it.

I would not buy this though, sure Stillen makes good stuff from what ive seen but what they charge for this stuff is past rediculous. My exhuast is only 200 dollars more and theres more pipe in that box. All they are doing is Stillen your money.

I personally am very pleased with my stock K&N replacements. You get already attached heat shield, heat resistant tubes, and decent air flow. Pluse i love how easy it is to pop the filters out of the factory boxes.

Dear Mr. *,

Thank you for your inquiry!
How do you like the dual intakes and sway bars so far?

Yes, I have the long tube upgrade kit available.
It comes with polished long tubes and couplers/brackets.
It will give you ~ 4 more hp over the short tubes.

Your cost is $144.95 + $9.95 handling.
Let me know if you would like to order it.

Best Regards
justa fyi didnt know if anyone knew the claim of gains.

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I would consider the upgrade. The polished tubes should help smooth the air flow, so the claims don't surprise me.

Did you notice any effects of heat soak or loss of power?

Not bad, I may have to upgrade a bit later. I might order them when I order some HFCs and catback.

I'm waiting on someone to come out with a silicone intake tube similar to this http://www.cosmosracing.com/products1.html

Its smooth, somewhat flexible, durable, heat resistant, and not too expensive.

I am sure someone will eventually. But as it stands, our HR's breathes well stock. I have been using my Stillen for months now, and see no reason to switch it out yet. Right now, I am going for performance mods which actually make a significant difference on the car. (IE. Suspension, Wheels, & Brakes first).

The stock intake tract isn't that much different, just made of rubber instead.

I know, I just think it would sell like hot cakes.

I'll run paper filters on the car unless I go FI. I hate the idea of losing filtration and having to change my oil more often over 5 hp (aka <2%) that I'll likely never benefit from in a meaningful manner.

I'd much rather keep 5k+ oil change intervals (running amsoil).

You mean like a dual Cold Air Intakes instead of the Dual Short Ram Intakes? I am sure those would cost even more. Also, I believe the windshield washer reservoir may be in the way on the passenger side.

It would be nice if you could do a before/after dyno. At the very least, you could probably get some sound clips. :-D

Probably a simple question, but how are these tubes supposed to increase power? Are they wider than stock? Smoother air flow?

I believe they claim more hp from the long tubes than the short tubes using part of the stock hoses is because of smoother air flow.
