Default what speed/rpm gives the BEST gas mileage?

I did my search on this site and got a bunch of different hits.....but I want to know for our VQ35HR engine on the highway, what speed/rpm gives the best mpg.

I'm on the highway 90% of the time in the Z going back and forth in Chicago and was wondering how to get the most mpg.

you can experiment yourself using the in-car calculator.... find a flat stretch, start going 60, reset calculator and wait.. note mileage. repeat at 65, 70, 75, etc...

Don't forget to come back and tell us what you found out =)

i did this! someone once told me keeping rpm between 2000-25000 rpm gives the best mileage....So @ 60mph i used the in car calculator and got 3 different numbers all together, 27.1, 26.0 and 28.9 .

At some points on the highway the road was hilly so maybe thats why i got diffrent readings. I also did this at 70-75mph and got something similar but cant reacall if i saw more than 26mph in the speed range.

my aim is to get the best mpg at the highest speed but hey if 60mph vs 75mph gives me the most, then obviously il do 60.

thanks in advance everyone.

The only way to truly see the difference between MPG VS MPH is to cruise on a "strait" "flat" freeway and try every MPH on cruise control. My car gets the best on the way to work it I just leave it at 73-74 the whole way, and if I have a passenger its needs to be at 77-78 for the MPG. Try it.

Default gas milage on a z?

You guys are driving a z and complaining about gas? Gas is expensive everywhere now and if you really want to save money on gas get a HONDA. LOL

Ironically, I just switch to the 350Z from an '06 Honda Civic, and the fact that I'm getting half the mileage than I was before is absolutely shocking.

Oh well, the fact that it's a damn fun car makes up for it.

Best I've done was 53 mpg going slightly downhill, at about 40 mph in 6th gear over 5-6 miles.
