I'am currently running amsoil 5w-30 in my car. I plan on switching to either motul or royal purple. Have heard bad things about amsoil's tendency to eat away at engine seals.

I have used several oils in my z, have 06 grand touring auto 47k miles now
i used mobil-1 synthetic 10w-30 at first-it turned black as sludge in 3k miles
with once a month track use and daily driving
then i switched to motul, was a little bit better but not as clean as i
would have liked and still felt burnt/not very slick on fingers
then tried amsoil-did pretty good fairly happy with it
then royal purple-stays the cleanest and most slick to touch after
service out of the brands i have used

ASL is all you need. 5w30 or 0-30.

SSO Signature Series 0W-30 is great for warm months.

Royal Purple 10W-30 in cold months.

I am used to running 5k+ mi per interval and lab testing each change.

Umm that is a BS lie. If you want something that hurts your engine you go use Royal Purple which will hurt your seals.

Amsoil is one of the best oils you can get and it renews your seals it doesn't eat away at them.

FYI, oils that turn dark means they are doing their job and cleaning the engine. Ones that do not aren't doing their job. RP is known to not do this well.

When oil is dark, that means all the engine deposits the oil is picking up and keeping it away from attaching to parts. Doesn't mean it isn't working anymore.

Just an FYI, the SSO line has replaced the TSO line for 0w30 applications. I just put some SSO to replace my TSO AMSOIL about a month ago. I will be sending in another UOA when this changes to see what exactly are the differences. I imagine it's the amount of Moly as a addictive in the TSO compared to the SSO.

If you were going to order the TSO, then order the SSO.

First off, you have to know what the numbers are for. The first number is the weight of the oil at start. So the colder the weather environment, the thinner the oil you want. This makes it easier for the engine to start up. The second number is what the oil weight will be after the car is warmed up. So really, the only difference here is the start weight of the oil. If you were to live in Colorado like me where it can get pretty cold in the winter, you would want a 0W30 oil in your car. In warmer environments, you can run 10w30 or 10w40.

Generally speaking, you can think of the first number as the number you look at depending on your environment. Really hot all the time, go with a heavier weight. Really cold then you want a lighter weight.

I would have gone TSO 0w-30 or SSO 0w-30, both are superior to the ASL 5w-30

so whats optimal for when ur engine is warmmed up? 30 or 40, i've seen as high as 50

the higher the number the heavier/thicker the oil, right?
