I simply changed my stock G35 intake tube over to a 350z intake tube, cleaned my throttle body with throttle body cleaner (in which I manually moved the butterfly valve with my hand as I cleaned around it with cleaner and a rag), ensured that everything was securely tightened and that was it. I should have read up on throttle body cleaning on these drive-by-wire cars before I proceeded...becuase I never would have cleaned anything.

Many folks have cleaned their TB's, moved the butteryfly, etc with no issues. Some have commented that its best to clean it whiles the battery is disconnected.

The thread on maxima.org has some informative tips and has a link to infinitihelp.com or something to that effect, where they go a bit more indepth. It suggests that the ECU from '03-'05 cars may need to be updated before trying to do the re-learn....

well it depends on how lucky you are. some people get away without even needing to do anything, other people it will cost them a throttle body or even more. it sounds like you might be one of the unlucky people needing a new TB. i think it depends on how far you move the butterfly too

Is this a question or a statement? Your posts indicate that you know what you're talking about so, I am curious if moving the throttle plate is a bad thing.

if you move it by hand, yeah. you can end up needing to replace the TB. the general consensus is that its the result of having a sensitive TB (electronic, doesnt have to deal with someone slamming their foot to the ground and yanking the cable, its smooth and controlled). basically, its not even suggested to clean it. even the FSM specifically states not to clean it

I'm not electronically inclined so just my general rules of thumb, I ALWAYS disconnect neg. bat. terminal when removing anything that connects to a somekind of power! it's a simple rule...

yeah man CANADIAN STEALERSHIPS are more tougher than the US. I had an ignition coil problem a month ago and I just got slightly lucky and didn't pay for anything. At first the svc mngr was quoting me at 1500bucks for ECU repairs minus the diagnostic test 5hrs X 120bucks... subscribing on this for future references...

Plain and simple you need to buy a new Throttle Body end of story....There cheap now from Nissan like $150 for a reman. I have been replacing them at my work (Nissan Dealership) Left and right due to high idle problems that cannot be fixed with Idle Air Vol or ECU reset. Very common problem right now....

Cleaning the TB should be done. In future I will remove the negative terminal on the battery before doing it.

Anyhow, I fixed the problem WITHOUT REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY.

I removed the 350z intake tube, played around a bit with the throttle body (there seems to be a bit of play in the buttery fly valve), ensured that it wasn't sticking at any point, pressed the throttle down and looked at the valve open on its own power. I took apart the MAF, cleaned the sensor with CRC sensor cleaner (I figured I would since I had recently installed a freshly oiled K&N filter which may have gunked up the MAF). I reinstalled all the stock intake components, made sure everything was tight. I then did the ECU reset, accelerator/throttle/IACV re-learns, and the car now works as well as it did before cleaning the throttle body...
