I have the Stillen shorties. The plastic shield does get warm. So, I used to air ducts from the lower grill to the upper inlet where the stock intakes breath. Chicago burbs to downtown Memphis in 7 hrs and they were cool to the touch with the addition of the ducts.

Pics will be posted today.

Just any type of plastic, etx ductwork will work. I already had one tube from another project and just had to purchase one more. I put a small hole in each and zip tied them to the lower grill and ran them up to the intate inlets in front of the core support.

They sound great and I like them just for that. I have the kit with the shorties, not the kit with the long metal tubes. I drove from the Chicago burbs to Memphis in a very short time and the filter housings were cool to the touch. The tubes just provide cooler air to the intake housings.

I think the sound and performance on the top end well make up for any loss at the bottom. I still cruise in 6th at 40+.

I've never heard of there being a substantial amount of low end power lost cause of a CAI. Only reason i could think of is due to the longer piping compared to the short ram making the air take longer to reach the throttle.

Any hydro lock stories from Z owners with CAI's on the HR?

Considering that 99.9% of HR owners on here (including myself) don't own a true CAI system, I would say that there have been none.
