Exclamation CAI drawbacks..?

Are there any drawbacks in installing a cold air filter on the HR? In the long run will it affect the performance of your engine? I heard that because of the air to fuel ratio being different over time that becomes a problem. I drive my Z daily on the highway at high speeds and because of where I live its always very dusty and hot will that cause a CAI to damage an engine?

hmm, i didn' think they made a CAI for the HR, thought they could only have short ram intakes because of the passenger side engine bay. as for damage to your engine, that is what a filter is for and that other thing you mentioned, you heard wrong since the ECU will adjust to a intake. if not there would be a lot of people in trouble that have ran them for a long period of time

First, an answer to your Q OP.

Downfall to a CIA and/or Popcharger system= Loss of Low end power

Perks = Sounds great, gain on HIGH end power

Like Z04 said, your ECU will adjust for the air/fuel mixture and that's what the filters are there for, just like your stock ones, to FILTER out dust and all other particles in the air.

While I really have to agree with Z04, there is no TRUE CIA for our HR engines; NISMO makes this guy which they sell as a CIA because of the block off plates that come with it...plastic plates that "separate" the filter from the rest of the engine bay...sorta.

Very nice! Looks like they JUST came out with it. Still though, its going to ahve the same drawback, loss of low end power. I'm sure it sounds beastly though.

The stock system is tuned [length] to give a very very tiny boost at 50-60 mph to squeeze the last 0.01 MPG out at low load cruise.

Actually, the plates are metal. And it's a CAI for Cold Air Intake As far as the loss/gain, honestly, I didn't feel any difference when I put mine on. However, they look great and sound wonderful!

What do you guys think about the Stillen dual long Intake they say "The filters sit inside custom-fitted urethane intake boxes, which ensure no hot engine compartment air gets sucked into the intake tract." is this true? Does this system provide better protection then the NISMO's two metal plates. And which one of the two sounds louder? Basicaly which one would you recommend.. thanks

your stock airbox/filter does the same thing, the "filters sit inside a intake box ensuring no hot engine compartment air gets sucked into the intake"

Those Stillen intakes look great! If i decide to get them im probably going to paint the intake boxes red to match my engine cover. Is there a really big difference in sound compare to the stock air boxes and are they louder then the Nismo intakes?
