Default A Diet For The Fat Lady?

Hey guys, been on the site a while with a few posts here and there. Looking at lightening the car and not sure exactly where to start. Before you flame me I did a quick search and didn't find anything exact. My job keeps me busy so I dont get much time to search so please keep the answers relevant

So far all I have read about (no links or leads) are:
Lightweight Flywheel/Clutch combo
Lightweight Battery
Lightweight Brakes

Anyone have any links to the battery or brakes? Or anything else helpfull?

there is a really big thread about it. its called "have you lighten your z"

but a short write up for you (because I also going to lose some pounds)

-lightweight battery
-flywheels
-forged wheels
-carbon parts (best are doords (but then you need a cage..) and cf hatch with lexan(saves I think 120 lbs?!))
-seats
-brakes (2 piece rotor)
-exhaust(most with catback, then cats, and a few with test pipes)

-just 30 % of gas
-just 30% of wishing water
-spare and **** out of the rear

hope i didnt forget things. but after that, you have to be crazy.. delete you interior etc etc.

I put on a titanium exhaust, took out the passenger seat, spare tire, tools, back carpet/wheel cover.

Once we get warm weather again I am taking off the rear wipper, hatch weight, replacing the passenger seat with a lighter one.

Here is where I was going, not 100% sure on the weight of the items but you get the idea:

yes, search for the weight reducing thread in the general 350z thread. it's quite a few pages, but there are plenty of good weight reduction tips. depends if it's your daily or not. if it's track only, gut it to get the most weight reduction, and light weight wheels help alot.

Forged rims and dry carbon hatch with lexon glass is a good place to start.

Well im doing some dieting of mine own, im on track to loosing 20 lbs. Ohh and my z is on a diet too, started by loosing the spare tire and tools. If you want to you can leave out a quart or 2 of oil next oil change (common practice in the drag racing world) keep all your fluid reservoirs low. My factory wheel setup weigh in over 200 lbs, volk ce28n or re30, advan rs or rz, buddy club p1 qf, ssr competition type c are some of the wheels that save 40lbs +. Smaller diameter tire can also save weight (toyo t1r are light tires). Full exhasut can save you up to 80 lbs or you can just take off everything after the cats. Leather seats weigh about 100 lbs together, so just removing the passenger side makes a difference, or bride, spearco, jic are some manufacturers that make very light seats. Light weight battery can save 20 to 30 lbs depending how much you want to spend. Light weight hatch and laxan window can save a lot, ive heard anywhere from 50-120 lbs depending on what you buy and what you want from original hatch (lights wiper shocks heated glass). Its hard to take weight off brakes and keep it track worthy, you need big in the braking world. So even the lightest brakes might add on more drivetrain weight (bigger rotors = slower car) some options are leave stock or transplant carbon ceramic brakes from porsche ferrari or 09 vette ($$$$$). Flywheels make a huge difference in lower gears but they are noisy. Carbonfiber doors are super light but dangerous, the side impact beam is the only thing saving your butt in a T bone accident, and its part of the crumple zone in a car. Removing all the heat sheilds and engine bay covers from the car helps, remove power steering, ac, heating core can save over 100lbs. Remove all plastics from inside helps (off the door, center console, celing, hatch ect.). forged engine internals, engine swap.

I was also looking to reduce weight, but to keep an everyday vehicle that looks great. I removed the spare and tools, but built a light aluminum frame to support the carpet. It looks factory, and I store groceries and whatever back there like before. The insulator between the carpet and tire also came out. I removed a shipping tie down bracket on the left rear frame. I removed the subwoofer plate and insulator behind the drivers seat. Aftermarket cats are lighter, and I also removed the heat shields. I removed one horn, and changed the bracket for the remaining horn from steel to aluminum. I changed (fabricated) multiple brackets on transmission that supported wiring from steel to aluminum. I found several bolts in the front end that could be shortened, and used aluminum washers in a few places. I drilled about 400 holes in the front aluminum bumper. The biggest change was the Rays wheels, which also made a big difference in the willingness of the car to spin tires. I plan on a light weight battery this coming spring, and am thinking hard about removing the windshield washer reservoir assembly. I really wanted to do the aluminum flywheel, but talked myself out of it for now due to the noise and vibration issues. I keep looking at brakes, which some of the kits are about 10 pounds lighter per axle, but as mentioned by kd07z, if the rotors are larger diameter, they will slow acceleration. At this point, I've removed close to 100 pounds, and the battery will put me over that, while the car looks factory original. My weight losses will also be roughly equal between the front and rear, maintaining the original balance of the car.
