What does it feel like exactly when the Slave Cylinder is on it's way out? At a cold start this morning, I noticed that 1) I felt a significant amount of resistance when moving the shifter (could be cold weather, it went away by the time i got to my workplace) and 2) The clutch pedal rose somewhat slowly after depressing it all the way (this was f*cking annoying. but also went away by the time i got to work- for the most part)

Are these the symptoms of my @#$@ dying?

 

Most people usually report the slave cylinder problem when driving their car aggressively. For instance, the only time my clutch got stuck to the floor and wouldn't come back up was when I was at the drag strip..

The gearbox does feel notchy in the morning for me too, but that's because of the cold weather. Drive it around for a few minutes and it's back to normal. The transmission fluid has to be warmed up. Same goes for my brother's RX8..

But the way you described your clutch pedal rising slowly, I would say it needs to have the slave cylinder replaced along with the clutch fluid..

Hey guys! Just wondering what happened with this? Is the problem still gone?

Reason I'm asking is because since it got cold I've been having a similar problem. 2nd and 3rd gear, when they are cold (even after a 5-10min warm up) they upshift relatively normal but would have to have serious force to downshift to. 3rd isn't nearly as bad but 2nd would need to be pulled on. I have a 8 miles drive to work (5 highway)... by about the end of the highway travel, the trans shifts up and down like butter!? I try my hardest to not downshift to either of these gears when they're cold because I know it is definitely not good for it but I'm really trying to figure out what's going on?!

Thoughts?

 

5-10 min will not warm-up that trans. it takes me 10 min in 60 degree weather to get the engine oil up to 190.... so i say you are just fine. just take it ez till it smoothes out. also, try good trans fluid. moutul comes to mind

I do agree that just warming the car up won't warm the trans up, that's obvious. I'm just blown away by the fact that I really can't downshift to 2nd or 3rd within the first 5-10 min.

I just changed my trans and rear diff fluids a few months to Redline Synthetic (and yes I was careful with weight and GL-4/GL-5). I was thinking about swapping to a different (trans) fluid and maybe a lighter weight so it can warm up quicker? Thoughts? Again, thank you!

Switching to a lighter weight oil to let it warm up quicker? Jesus that's stupid..

Unless you abuse your car at track events every weekend, everything should remain OEM viscosity..

 

redline is good stuf. once again, your car is fine, just takes wile to warm up. in my 05 i had to sit in the parking lot for like 5 min before i could get it in gear @!!!
