LOL. We have new members finding 2003 and 2004 350Zs with 30,000 miles. They are beautiful cars.

Anyway, I've been lurking the forums for a while, and I might have an opportunity in the coming summer to get a 350z. I know of the differences between the DE and the HR motor (stronger internals, dual intakes etc..). It is very clear to me that the HR is a superior motor, but how does this new motor play out in in practice?

Meaning, is there a night-and-day difference between driving the 06 and the 07? Preferably I would like to wait for used 07s to become cheaper/more available, but if the difference is not ALL THAT, I might just pick up a 06.

Thanks, and I hope this topic hasn't been beaten to death.

Flame suit on, just in case.
imo, the difference really is night and day. you can easily feel the difference when driving the 2.

i had a little run in with an 05 at a stop light (no other cars on that road at the time). both of us complimented each other on our cars, i asked him what year his was and if he had anything done to it (it was stock, so is mine), and then light turned green. both of us took off normally so i didn't think anything was gonna happen, so i shifted into second at about 10-15 mph (he was still in first). as soon as i shifted he nailed it, so i followed (me still in second and him in first). as soon as a floored it, he stopped pulling on me, and as by the time i was at about 4.5k i was pulling on him, and by the end of second i was about a fender ahead. He had the advantage of being in a lower gear, and i still beat him with relative ease.

that imo is a night and day difference

if you decide to stay stock, the hr is FTW, if you decide to do bolton's, the hr is FTW (A.H on this forum has 318whp through an auto with just bolton's and a tune, Z1 Performance has a fully built na 6 spd na z, and its 320whp). if you decide to do stock block turbo, than hr is FTW (there are people making 500+ whp with just a bolt on tt kit and a reflash). if you decide to build a crazy turbo monster, built engine 800+whp, etc etc, imo, the de FTW. there is much more development on it in that area and its been done by a few people already. unless you wanna be the guinea pig for developing that kind of power for an hr...

I shopped for a year and a half... It was a matter of getting the best deal. Ended up paying 18500 for my 07 and it only had 150 miles on it.

I had an 03 and now an 07... huge difference. If you can afford it go HR. Test drive both however, if you can afford HR as stated go with it, if you decide it's not worth the extra $... go 05 for sure low miles etc.

What problems? Other than the clutch cylinder recall, what else was there?

the difference between the 06's- // 07+ is a big one Imo.

my buddy has the 06 rev up model i bought an 08 base, we both driven eachothers cars a bunch of times and we both agree there is a big difference. Im not saying a 10000$ difference if you find a good deal on a used older model, but performance wise you can tell a big difference.

Ive only had my 08 about a month, but I was at the dealer and was in the same spot ... they had an 08 base and a nismo and an 06, . I drove drove all three. The differance was HUGE.... the 06 had nothing on the either 08. The 08 just feels like a better car over all.. power, handeling all of hands down HR, and there was only a 3,000 price differance ... all said and done I got the 08 cheaper than the 06..so find the deal on the 07/08.
